2002 Volvo S80 transmission fluid is boiling hot

2002 Volvo S80 transmission fluid is boiling hot and car won't go after about 20 feet until it sits and cools. The message light "Transmission Service Urgent" came on about 5 miles prior to me being able to find safe spot to pull off road. Any ideas?
