Oil burning or excess gas not being fully burned. If gas, smoke will be very black, whereas oil burning has a bluish tinge. If your engine runs good otherwise, it is probably oil burning. Most common cause of that is worn piston rings.

SOURCE: Isuzu Big Horn (Trooper) 4JX1 engine.... Vehicle

Sends a signal related to the rail pressure as a voltage to the ECM. 3 wire connector :

  • Red : 5V (Feeds from ECM connector J1-4) Shared with MAP sensor, EGR pressure sensor and accellerator position sensor.(compare values from these sensors and ECM connector)
  • Black : Ground (Feeds from ECM J2-22) Shared with the same sensors mentioned above
  • White : Signal feeds to ECM connector J2-22
Low pressure will set P1194 error code. Oil rail pressure should be more than 3MPa when cranking

Also check Engine coolant temp sensor and wiring. Engine coolant to manifold temp should not differ by more than 5 deg C either way after 8 hours of no operation. I have found the same symptom on these diesels with fuel supply problems. Operate the priming pump (on top of the fuel filter) until it becomes diffycult to push down before starting or checking anything else.

Testimonial: "Thanks Suzman, We actually managed to get it going....The only problem remaining is a rough idle until its warmed up and sometimes stalls until warm. "

SOURCE: 4jx1 probale cause of smoke

normally if its white smoke it can be that you have a blown head gasket , if its black smoke, you probably have oil fouled spark plugs, which are normally caused by bad rings or valve seats,,

SOURCE: i cannot start my isuzu bighorn w/4jx1 engine. we already changed the turbo but still it emits too much smoke in the exhaust and after a while the engine goes wild and we cannot turn it off in the ign

Its a diesel and its running away so do not try to start till you do the following and yes i know i will be amolished for being a cowboy by the other experts but what you do is to make a gasket for the EGR valve from a coca cola can and seal it off if you dont it may run away and blow itself to pieces .If you do this then it run as normal as the older trucks never had these thing fitted and they all run ok in my day ,exactly whats wron i couldnt tell you without my head under the bonnet but do as i say and it run perfectly

Isuzu 4jx1 mixing diesel in water. what is cause. and how to remedie

Where are you finding this? Diesel and water would normally only mix if water was getting into the fuel tank. Are you sure it is diesel? If you are finding it in the coolant reservoir it is more likely to be engine oil. This usually suggests a blown head gasket.

4jx1 causes of smoke dark smoke

Don't have a clue what a 4jx1 is, but if it is an engine, dark smoke (black) means excess fuel is getting into cylinders. This can be leaky fuel injectors, wrong fuel pressure, bad coolant temp sensor, defective ignition coil or module, bad spark plugs or wires, bad ECU, and others.

My Isuzu Bighorn 4JX1 RJM Engine stalled after fitting it with new oil pump. It can crank but is emiting white smoke. What could be the problem? I have tried to check if the fuel pump is not working but...

White smoke is usually a sign of coolant burning. Carefully open the coolant cap, sniff the inside. If there is an exhaust smell you more than likely have head gasket problems. A further diagnosis is needed to be sure. Also ensure that any wires/plugs are reconnected. If the oil sensor is unplugged the vehicle wont start.

Sounds like the valve seals may be bad and leaking oil into the cylinders when it sits. This would cause a bluish smoke. One thing to help figure out the problem is are you using oil? If so I would explain the problem of smoking to a good trusted mechanic. He would be able to advise on a valve seal job or if you have high milage other options you would have to repair the problem.
