The fuel pump is inside the tank, so pulling the tank is a reasonable way to get to it. You may be able to pull it from the top of the tank without pulling the entire tank, depends on how they put it in. I honestly don't remember pulling the tank on mine when the pump went bad.

Check the inertia switch the inertia shut down the vehicle fuel pump in case of a accident it possilbe to get set off by a jolt or a kick for the Taurus it is listed in several places it can be in the trunk area on the right side you will have to pull the cover back when you get to the inertia press the button on top to reset the switch
