2004 Toyota Sienna. Replaced dead battery. Now I cannot shift out of Park into any other gear and my brake/stop lights are not working. Is it possibly a fuse? If so which one?

With what another dead battery? LOL
wow, when did it last run last week, 3 years ago?
what is mileage, 50k 500k?
engine run"? ok, my guess, is yes.
does head lights work with full brightness>? and fan blower on?
my guess, is yes.
how are my guesses doing?

  1. :is battery charged to 12.6vdc , rested? this be FIRST.
  2. the brake lights do in fact activate , park lockout on all a/t cars.
  3. so fix brakes first. yes, fuse, and is marked brake.
  4. did you read the operators guide, see the fuse boxes, and all are marked? see the number of boxes in car, as many as 3 ?
  5. if the fuse is good, key on, 12vdc on both sides , we then check for 12vdc to the brake switch, ok its good, now brake pressed key on, the switch output goes to 12vdc and all brakes glows.
  6. of 0v now, the switch is bad,if 6vdc its a shorted line, you do know that brake lamps do short ,right, so replace them is 1 time easy fast fix. FOR SURE.

the operators guides of most cars cover fuses. this is like automatic check we do on all cars made, my hand lurches to glove box.
the guide is free for 10 + years. if lost, its free online at
drum roll, toyota.com

finding the chapter online is hard , no full book

See "Fuse locations" on page 449 in Sec-tion 7

there are way more loads on fuse then there are fuses. and only the FSM discloses, this fact , called schematics, with out those, many jobs are IMPOSSible, but most cars, do call brake fuses, "brake" marked on the BOX plain as day.

SOURCE: Sienna won't go out of park, warning lights lit after oil and coolant change

Check to see if your brake lights work(brake/ignition interlock), if they don't then the fuse that has blown may be the cause of the other warning lights in the dash, sure sound like they did something at the oil change place

could very well be the relay for the power door and possibly the interior light relay... they are located in the fuse panel under the dash.

SOURCE: 1989 Toyota Camry. No brake lights.

It could be the relay, which is a yellow box located under the carpeting in the trunk on the left side. It is a problem common to your model. Also, check the brake switch's (behind the brake pedal) functionality (12V present with key at ACC or ON and continuity between wires when button engaged).

i hope this helps

SOURCE: toyota sienna interior lights not working

The problem is in the sunvisor light. You will have to take the light assembly off and you will find wires have become disconnected.

SOURCE: My battery is dead and I can't move the car due to the auto gear shift stuck in park. How do I move the car to get a jump on the battery?

if you look on the center council where the shift lever is you will see a small plastic button on the drivers. Remove the button. Insert a small screwdriver into the hole and push down. You will then be able to move the shift lever into nuetral and push the car.

2004 mazda mpv. suddenly unable to shift from park into any gear. what happened?

Probable culprit would be the electric solenoid that releases the gear shift linkage when you apply the brake pedal. Since it's electric, a dead battery will cause the same result. Check to see if your brake lights are working. If not try replacing your brake light switch as this also gets power to the above mentioned solenoid.

This is a safety feature to prevent children from accidentally putting a car in gear.

Good luck!

Check your brake light fuse, also make sure you installed the bulb in the right way, if not in the right way will blow a fuse and will also not let you shift gear's due to blown fuse.
