You have to run the car then tow it or else you will fry the transmissions planetary.
this trans has no rear pump, ego, it burnes up, unlike my 64 Grand Prix, that has one. the operators guide is clear , don't tow it, over x mles, x = luck, heat, past abuse,lube brands, air temp. NO man on earth knows x. so, make it zero
that is why you see cars pulled backwards, or flat bed towed (SAFE), or with drive shaft dropped and tied SECURE. not for funs and giggles, "pure physics"
the books,, that cover shows you running the engine, to make the transmisison pump, and lubricate all parts, some books, show 50, my 4wd truck shows 200 miles to tow it behind RV. there are far better ways, and the op never said DISTANCE a key fact , OP tow around the block or cross country., do you lack books?

the reason is that the rear bearings in they big transmission
is only lubricated with the engine running (this starts a/t pump)
so towing it dry is always a risk, (hard fact) MAY DO IT .
BUT on some cars, not all, they will say, stop the tow, start this engine, every 200 miles for 5min. to prime the bearings.

if it's the check engine light. since your car is 1996 and newer take it to the local autzone, advance auto (free) have them plug into it and read the codes (OBDII). take a pen and paper so that you can write down what comes up. Or take it to your local mechanic and have him/her read the codes ($Free-$60). anything outside of the check engine light, you will need to go to a garage / dealer.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls

P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off
Your car actually has a viscous converter clutch inside the torque converter instead of a (mechanical) torque converter clutch to lock up the torque converter for fuel economy improvement. You will see it referred to as the VCC and/or TCC.....
The TCC/VCC has a variety of components in the system including an electrical circuit supplying the transmission, the apply solenoid inside the trans, the torque converter itself, the PCM that controls the apply, etc. It is impossible to diagnose from afar. Unlikely that it is a "sensor" inside the trans as the PCM controls the VCC apply and uses engine and trans data that it receives from a variety of sources. If a "sensor" had failed the trouble code for that sensor would be setting......
Something as simple as the brake switch can cause the VCC to not apply correctly. There is a safety switch on the brake pedal that activates the brake lights and disconnects the VCC circuit. If it is misadjusted then the trans cannot apply the VCC. Lots of other trouble shooting items on the VCC system. If you don't have a service manual and cannot trouble shoot the system, I would recommend a Cadillac dealer as they have the trouble shooting information for the specific VCC that the Cadillac 4T80E trans has that a trans shop is simply not familiar with. No sense working on the trans until you actually know what is wrong.

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling,pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing,the blockage may be there.
