I have a 1995 Chevy 4x4 1500 with a 350 engine. I am getting horrible gas milage although the engine runs extremely well. The engine light will come on from time to time and when I had it checked it said it was the "Mass Airflow Indicator". We have looked everywhere for this sensor. It is not on the airhose to the carb. like I have seen in just about all the pictures. I need to get this fixed before the cost of gas breaks me.

Mass air flow is a small sensor on the pipe from the air breather to the throttle body. Make sure your air breather is clean and also check your PCV valve.

Testimonial: "I have checked and checked and there is no sensor on the pipe. It is a straight shot from the air filter to the side wall with nothing inbetween. What id did find out from your post is it could very well be the PVC valve. After reading some info on it, my truck has all the simptoms of a bad valve. I am going out and buying a new one today and will let you know. Would this cause the bad gas mileage?"

I replaced the PVC valve and disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes to reset the system...the "Service Engine Soon" light came back on within 3 miles.

Check your O2 sensors if they are clogged, reset and pull your active coes again

Add Its on the exhaust in front of the catalytic converters, it may have more than one. Looks like s spark plug with a wire coming out of it. You know it could be someone has tried to remove the emissions off your truck

Thank You Very Much ATP1962..I blew up your diagram to plus 400 so I had a very good look. The man at NAPA looked there as well and there is not one nor can I find anywhere where one could be screwed into at. I have a not-so-smart question and I am sure I aldready know the answer but just to be sure, I am fairly certain the instument that looks like a spark plug that is inbetween the first two actual sparkplugs in front on the driver's side is a temp gauge and NOT the o2 sensor. It has a single blue wire coming from it.

The oxygen sensor is in the exhaust pipe but can be in the exhaust intake. On newer models they are in the exhaust Y pipe, in front of the catalytic converter, and some have on front and back of converter on newer models. Alot of guys eliminate them when they customize the exhaust which cause problems suck as yours. A bad electric choke can cause issues as well.

Thank you so much again. I have about decided to reside myself that it was removed as you said. I thought I might run it up to the Chevy dealership and see if they would take a look. Except for the low gas milage and that dang S

"Service Engine Soon" light...it runs like a dream.

  • atp1962 Jan 10, 2015

Could it be your emission stuff was removed from this unit? Or could this be a replacement motor? So many things dont add up. I could check your timing on this unit and your choke setting then

I am a fairly descent mechanis but not a master by no means. I will have to research and see if the emmissions were pulled out. I do know it is the original engine, it has 130,000 miles and drives like a dream with a steering wheel. I will check the timing and have noticed it takes an extra rotation or two to start first thing in the morning, not as well as it use to, so I will also research and try and figure out how to check the choke setting. THANK YOU so much for your help.

Poor gas milage?

Thinking you are getting poor gas milage,Your engine is running smooth,no misses,Engine runs smooth while accelerating up a hill, Still poor gas milage, Check your tire pressure. I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4x4, 4.3 Ltr. Auto, loaded. I have just over 154000 miles on it,I change my fluids every 5000 miles. Summer driving milage got real bad. I drive a Blazer hard. I tow a 16ft trailor usally loaded to the top with wood. Tires get hot in the summer, while in the winter, they stay mostly cool. Always check your air pressure. Most vehicals are equipted with radials now days, So if you think a tire looks low, check it, Usally they low. Usally in the winter months, nobody checks tire pressure. It really does make a difference. I went from 17.2 MPG to 19.5 MPG, while pulling the same trailor loaded with wood. I cut my own wood then stack it in my trailor to sell. I have Good Year Wranglers size: P235/75R/15 I just replace these with new ones. The old ones are going on my trailor. Counted milage on tires are 65000 Miles. Tires were rated at 40000 miles, Under normal use.

Why is my 2002 Chevy Cavalier horrible on gas? I am only getting 17 miles to the gallon. I have a CNG tank but no filling station close by. Could the weight of the tank be affecting my gas mileage?

Cars are just like airplanes. Weight will always have an effect on fuel milage. Check your tire inflation. We find, in our shop , that low tire inflation in the biggest cause of poor milage. (beside a lead foot like mine)

I have a 2006 chevy silverado and a knock sensor2 low input code came on it cut my bottom end power in half from a stop and horrible gas milage when i erase code i get power back.

The code caused the computer to go to a "safe mode" intended to be a temporary situation until you get the real problem fixed but allowing you to get the vehicle off the road. The knock sensor controls the timing and mixture settings to eliminate the detonation environment which can quickly destroy your engine Erasing the code is only causing this to happen over and over again, replace the sensor asap.

Check engine light on; Gas milage went from 19 to 15, emission ba

YES!!, you had it tuned, it runs good, but gas mileage dropped, and check engine light is on,it sounds like the o2 sensors are slow or even dead, i would replace them for sure and that just might solve all your problems, good luck, hope this helps.

I have 1995 C220 Mercedes. The car will run fine

It could be that your gas tank has some crud in it or the fuel pump is about to go. As well a dirty fuel filter could be culpret and check the airfilter and PVC valve.
