Is the battery low? this sometimes happens as a low voltage warning, disconnect the battery charge it and reconnect, double check the alternator, to make sure its the right one, if that does not work,

1998 expedition yesturday was low on fuel got gas drove with headlights on got 4 miles down road vehicle died thought was bad gas 3hrs later vehicle would run but abs light and brake light would flash

There is a problem in the electrics of the vehicle. First place to start is to check the alternator drive belt for condition and tension. Next place is the battery terminals and condition and tension . Third place is to have a load test done on the battery as it may have an internal short and drawing all the current from the alternator. In effect when you add power requirements ( park lights then brake lights then headlights) you are actually using more current than the alternator can supply to keep the engine system running.

2003 bmw x5 4.4 battery light stays on

Brother Mark, changing the battery with a new one being done won't make the light go out, as you noticed. Light is still on so you changed the alternator. Good, but the battery light is STILL on. This only means that the charging circuit from the alternator is not working in the voltage regulator or the wiring is not connected properly to the alternator/regulator. A new battery will show over 13 to 13.5 volts not connected. An old battery will still show 12 volts and still be weak or bad. After connected and engine running, the system will show at least 14 volts because alternator/regulator is working properly, using a voltmeter/load tester connected to the battery. If after replacing the battery and alternator it is still reading 12 to 13.5 volts, it is not working and the light will stay lit on the dash. You may have purchased a faulty alternator if the system tests out this way. Have your system checked with a volt meter or load tester bit be sure all the connections are proper and clean.

We replaced the alternator and the battery and the belt tensioner but charging system light still stays on

There are two things that generally cause a battery warning after an alternator replacement. The most common is a loose connection either with the control plug (aka “relay” plug-in), charging line connection, or the ground. The other is a blown fuse or defective connector or relay, which could have been broken or shorted when the alternator was installed or on the first start-up after its installation.
You can check that the alternator is supplying enough power by starting the car and disconnecting the battery. If the car dies, the alternator isn't working properly (or a wiring/relay/fuse issue).

My renault megane scenic only starts some days and others it is completely dead, I charge up the battery and it's fine for a few days and the dies again, got a new battery and the alternater is fine.

you may have a problem with the alternator sometimes not charging, may test okay sometimes, take a good look at the alternator and also make sure nothing is staying on, like inside lights, glove box light or brake lights, keep an eye on these things when parking the car for the day, something may be draining the battery down slowly.

What place verified the alternator for you?
If its a place like Autozone, all they can do is a normal running check of it,They cannot put a load on it to see how much it can put out.It really sounds like the voltage regulator is not changing, maybe one of the diodes are bad in the alternator.

When ya turn headlights on drains battery.also until couple days ago when you would turn h-lights off parking lights stay on

sounds like u have a wire shorting out somewhere? as for the draining is ur alternator working??? try a curcuit tester on wires to headlights and alternator.
