How do I remove the drivers side half shaft from the trans axle on a 1988 Ford Festiva

its located on the trans axle and has a wire connection on it above the half shaft coming out of the trans axle. I think on the drivers side of the trans axle.

you have to pull the half shaft out on the side the seal is leaking then pop out the seal and install new seal. this means r&r the wheel, brake, separate the lower ball joint, remove the half shaft axle nut, remove the half shaft from the spindle and pull out half shaft from trans. install in reverse order.

remove wheel on side. remove brake caliper/brakes, disconnect lower ball joint, remove axle shaft hub nut. push axle out of hub, then pull half shaft out of transmission. install reverse.

You will have to get a pry bar in between the Trans and half shaft/ axle and use pushing force to remove. I've used leg power on certain cars to remove axle

While the car is still on the ground remove the half shaft nut then jack the car up and support it with jack stands and remove the tire. after you get the tire off you may have to remove the break caliper and the rotor, if you have to do this now. Remove the lower ball joint nut and break apart the ball joint with a large pry bar by prying down on the lower a frame. grab the steering knuckle with both hands and pull until the half shaft is free from the bearing hub assembly. then grab the half shaft and give it a good tug to remove it from the trans axle, you may have to pry it out with a small pry bar wedged between the inner cv joint and the trans axle. at this point I would replace the entire half shaft it is cheaper and a lot easier than replacing the cv joint. installation is reversed but be careful of the splines when installing the half shaft back into the trans axle and the bearing hub. use a pry bar and put it in between the trany and the axle and give it a pull,or use a hammer and a bar place bar against back side of axle and hit it with hammer to break free, theres a c clip on the end of the shaft that holds it in,

check your front wheel drive axles/half shafts, see if the rubber boots that cover the bearings are not torn or missing.. sounds like you might need to replace the axle/half shaft on the passengers side

disconnect battery, put cars on jack stands, remove tires, remove axle nut on both axles, unbolt lower ball joint, pry down to remove from knuckle, side strut to remove shafts from trans, unbolt starter, bell housing bolts, clutch slave cylinder,support motor, pull back and turn trans about 8 degrees counterclockwise lower trans, remove pressure plate bolts to remove plate and disc,

should be fill plug on front side of trans axle obout half way up the trans axle

You'll have to remove the other side axle and place a screw driver or something to knock the other half of the axle out of the trans. from behind.
