2008 Jeep Patriot 2.4L sport manual transmission. It started being very sluggish in 1st gear a week ago, feeling like it wanted to stall out. Today while accelorating to get onto the interstate I placed it into 4th gear and it didn't engage, the RPM revved but the car slowed. I pulled over and it would slide into any gear but it would not engage.. Someone help

Check the fliuf level in the transmission. run the fault codes to find which servo/ solenoid / sensor or TCM has failed.

SOURCE: manual transmission takes effort to put in gear.

Have the clutch looked at. If the clutch is not releasing fully it makes shifting difficult. Have the trans fluid changed too, it isn't expensive and probably is listed under your maintanance in the owners manual

Check under drivers door sill step. There is a spice I believe the wires are red or pink in color. The splice will be wrapped in black hockey tape looking stuff. Peel the the hockey tape stuff off and you will find that this splice is corroded and not making contact anymore. You can repair this splice and your problems will be fixed. Be sure to use some good heat shrink on your repair to prevent from happening again.

SOURCE: Hi My jeep cherokee 2.8 crd has knocking sound

Well, something is broken. I suggest that you get it on a lift, and listen with a Stethoscope and be sure the noise is in the tranny. There is not usually anything good that comes from a noise like you describe. A broken tooth on a gear damages the mating gear and those parts add up fast.

ESP BAS ((ABS)) Brake and traction control light on in 2008 jeep patriot sport

I have the same problem on a 2009 Jeep Compass. I suspect a wheel speed sensor and when the weather gets better I'll check it out. I know if I take it in for service it will cost me a fortune for a simple problem. It's amazing the things they can find.
A couple years ago I took my Compass to Sears for service. I think it was for brake pads, shocks and a few small items. When I finally got the car back the bill was for $2500. What a shock.
