Need to replace the main rear seal leaking oil
This job is NOT for a casual shadetree mechanic or Do It Yourselfer. This is very very difficult even if you have the required tools. If I were you I'd do myself a favor, bit the bullet, take it to a Porsche dealer. It won't be cheap by any measure but you will be assured the job will be done properly. They know these SUVs having received proper training and have worked on them almost exclusively for some time.
Lots of tools!!! engine crane, engine stand, tranny stand, fluid collections buckets (collant, engin oil, tranny oil, transfer case fluid.
Remove transfer case, remove tranny. drop oil pan, lossen off rear eng bearing and remove slowly, remove seal materiial from upper seal have, install new seal material in both halfs, reinstall bearing and turgue to specs for bearing, install new seal and reinstall oil pan, reinstall trannt, reinstall transfer case, refill all fluids. start it up and check for leaks everyday for next week. it take 2 people to reomove case and tranny. it wiil take 16-18 hours of constant work for an experienced DYI
Testimonial: "the mechanic I am having do this removed the starter and other various parts says it requires special porsche tools?? is that true??"

There will be metric tools needed and possibly a special fitment tool but I am not aware of anything specific. Repair manuals will specify tools required.
