1994 Chevrolet Silverado. the ignition actuator

1994 Chevrolet Silverado. the ignition actuator rod, in the lock position is about 1 inch too long or out of position. this is an original part. how do i get it back into proper position so i can replace my ignition switch?

its out of position. why is it out of position. why are you trying to replace the switch. need some history.
