Should be self adjusting. There are usually two tabs where it mounts I to the bracket. Squeeze them tightly to release the cable. Then gently push the accelerator all the way to the floor and back up. You will probably hear a click as it goes back into place.
If you have the older rod type, you will have to loosen the bolts and set it to where it begins operating the kick down lever at just under half pedal

I recently purchased a Ford Courier 2005 2wd petrol & am experiencing serious complications with the gearbox. The manual stick seems to be able to literally turn around as if it has no gears .

I tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped me repair transmission problem in my ford explorer. it wont move forward or reverse, engine is good both solenoids for forward and reverse work.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and works perfect! got it from www.reliable-store.com

How can a kickdown cable be hooked up wrong if its connected to the tranny and the throttle body on a 1992 crown victoria

More likely it is not adjusted properly Kickdown cables are used to control fluid flow in the transmission so they shift correctly If adjusted to tight or to loose it will cause the transmission to not change gears properly or not at all
