Emergency parking brake wont hold car for inspection

this is very easy take car to brake shop or tire shop do to all tire shops do brakes and ask for brake check the problem is one of two things the rear brakes need adj. out a small amount or if you use the e. brake all the time it may need the cable or handle adjusted i have not ever adjusted the handle for this problem i have dozens of times had rear brakes adj. out just a little bit and when car is up and he is looking at brakes ask if he could adj. the rear adjusters for you and offer a tip if you are not comfortable with that ask service manager if he could have the machanic do it while it was up do to you noticed the handle was going up a little bit more then normal do not tell them this when first going in as thay will try to sell you brakes and pt"s do not go through rear brakes it use to be 2 front for 1 rear now on this car i have been seeing 3 fronts and then arear in most cases i see cars every day with 80.000 and90.000 and still have better then 50%rear left i do a lot of front brakes do to the stopping is better then 70% front used thanks and good luck

Is 158,000 miles bad for it?

Quite a bit of mileage on a 4 cylinder I would say
If running great now I would try and sell it before the engine goes out. 4 cylenders do not last as long as a 6 or an 8 cylinder for there small size and running temperature is the same as ALL other engines. Since the engine is small the engine gets hot quicker than the others

My pt cruiser 2001 is using 1 qt of oil every 250 miles????? we just bought it.

1) If you can see white smoke coming out of the tailpipe, then the engine is either clapped out, or some rings broke in a piston . 2) If no smoke is visible, then it is losing the oil somewhere, and you should see the oil spots on the floor. In a few cases, it will leak the oil only when running, and it will leave almost no traces while parked.

Estimate cost of a total brake job

if you just need pads and shoes or pads all around the parts should cost about 50 bucks. if you need rotors and or drums the drums will be about 40-60 a piece the rotors 25-70 a piece. if you take it to a brake shop it will cost you about 400-500 for an all around job. they aint cheap. if you can find a friend are a mechanic to do it for you it will be about 150- 300 . remember this is just a rough estimate. please rate this
