The best answer is to get a shop manual from auto parts store. The alignment is crucial so I would not want to trust someone's memory. You need a good picture.

"If any binding is felt when adjusting the timing belt tension by turning the crankshaft, STOP turning the engine, because the pistons may be hitting the valves."

1995 2.3L 4W ISUZU RODEO HOW DO YOU GET IT BACK IN TIME

Remove timing belt cover and the timing belt. Line up the cam gear timing mark with the mark that is behind it. Then, set the crankshaft pulley timing mark to zero degrees or whatever the book says. Then re-install the timing belt and re-torque the timing belt tensioner to the proper torque. Turn the engine one full turn, with a breaker bar and socket. Re-check the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft. Re-install the timing belt cover and everything else you took off to get to the belt. Be sure to torque the crankshaft pulley bolt to specs.

How to set the time belt?

4 Cylinder diesel(4JX1) :
1 - Timing mark
2 - Cam pulley
3 - HP Oil pump pulley
4 - Tensioner pulley

suzman_0.jpg

6 Cylinder petrol:
Align crank(C) timing notch mark (1) to oil pump mark.
Align cam pulley(L+R) marks(3) to cylinder head marks
The cam belt has 3 marks, 2 lines and one mark that is actually a row of dots. Align the dots to the crank pulley groove mark(2) and align the other 2 lines to the cam pulley marks. Using a clothes peg to hold the belt to the cam pulleys works wonders to keep it in place while fitting. Please note the arrows on the belt and have them point in the direction of rotation - right to left side of engine
W - water pump pulley
I - Idler pulley
T - Tensioner pulley.

If for some reason you need to realign the cams on each bank :
Standing in front of the car and starting from YOUR left , looking at the cams you should see RE, RI, LI, LE on each of the camshafts.(R for right bank, L for left bank, I for intake and E for exhaust) Right bank camshafts are marked with one dot, left bank with 2 dots on the shaft itself. To align the camshafts to each other each cam shaft gear has a mark on it. Draw an imaginary line between the centre of the camshaft and the centre of the pulley. The alignment mark should be between the two along this imaginary line. The result will be that RI an RE will be at the top of each gear. The same with the left bank.

Trouble getting marks aligned on 2001 Izusu Rodeo

if its a 6VE1 engine you might want to remove rocker covers and put front lobes of camshafts in position shown in picture with cam gear timmed up at same point cam gear are 3:1 ratio

b76b855.jpglook closely at cam gears in pic to see front lobe positions for both banks

What are the valve positions when cam gear is at tdc

hi from uk hope this will explain TDC valve positions ? when the crankshaft is at tdc this means that numbers 1 and 4 pistons are both at tdc but only one of the cylinders are on firing mode so if let us say in relation to 4cyl engine the fire order is 1 3 4 2 the c/shaft is at tdc ? but for which cyl ? 1 or 4 ? to check look if the camshaft mark is at its mark or check rotor arm ?if at 1 or 4 ? if it isat no1 cyl then both of the valves for that cyl are fully closed whilst no4 cyl valves are at the point of exhaust valve just closed and inlet just about to open this is correct for tdc number 1 cyl firing stroke ?ok so far ? now then if c/shaftmark is atTDC it may be number 4 cyl ready to fire? that is because the camshaft rotates at half speed to the crankshaft soyou need to rotate crank 360 deg to bring cyls 1 + 4 to tdc again then it will be cyl 1 at tdc on firing stroke along with rotor arm at No 1 plug lead and both valves for No 1 cyl will be closed (the cam lobes will be facing up whereas No 4 cyl valves will be pointing down ) hope this is clear for you to understand? if you look at any 4 cyl engine the sequense is the same for No 1 TDC but firing orders may change ie fords 1 2 4 3 is fire order they use as apposed to 1 3 4 2 ? OK? CURIOUSE why you asked? but best wishes and merry xmas from uk
