I think when they say boot, they are referring to the rubber hose that connects the filter canister and the intake. but I could be wrong. best luck to you.

SOURCE: cold air intake 97 camaro v8

Hey - Glad you're doing a power add on.
The short answer is no.

You can just disconnect the battery for 3-4 minutes.

When you hook the battery back up start and run the car normally. Maybe a 20 minute run ONE WAY to a friends house this will give the onboard computer time to adjust.

If the car isn't running well before you add the cold air and you put the cold air on right and hooked up ALL hoses then it will be right.
If you didn't purchase the CAI or Cold Air Intake - then you will need to check to be sure it was done right.

Best of luck with it.

Please vote me good if you like my answer.
If not post more on it and we can work out any other problems.

What is the sensor on the front of the throttle body on a 99 grand am

Its either a mass air flow sensor or a throttle position sensor(TPS) if it is on the side of the throttle body in-line with the butterfly it is a TPS. If it is inside the air intake tube it is a MAF sensor but those are usually either in the intake after the throttle body or in the intake tube right after the air filter

How do i remove the stock intake box from my grand prix gt

Look for attachment bolts inside the air box under the filter at the bottom. ducts usually pull right out, just watch that you don't break or damage wiring etc.

Back fires out of intake

sounds like the timing belt, unless you recently changed you spark plugs and put the boots/wires on the wrong plug. May seem silly but I've seen it done before.
