If it was me Id just get as much out as you can and go from there, not a hole lot in torque con. and you might be getting into something you don't want to,draining the trans will be enough to get your fluid back into good quality and changing filter, and with every trans change I put a pint of lucas with the change! good stuff!

SOURCE: Where is the transmission fluid drain plug for a 2000 Cougar

Your Ford has no drain plug, to change/drain the trans fluid u must remove the transmission pan, u may be able to lower fluid level with a fluiod siphon pump (rated for oil) through the dipstick tube, harbor freight tools sells a pump for this purpose.

SOURCE: transmission service

No there is no drain plug on the torque convertor , it typically holds 5 quarts of fluid at one time. While the transmission is open, check for any metal shavings on the magnet, this would indicate problems inside. make sure they change the fluid filter , before returning the transmissoin to service.

SOURCE: My PRNDL don't work, loose shift indicator won't go into gear. Plenty of transmission fluid, no obvious wear or breakage, what do I do now?

When you turn the key to the ON position are there any instrument lights on the dash? Does the radio work? If not, dead battery.

2001 grand marquis airbag light came on when car got wet

It's an American car, so it doesn't like to get wet per se. Dry it out and if the issue doesn't persist, then consider it fixed.

My 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis transmission location of the torque converter lock up sensor

There is no part called the lockup sensor, the lock up occurs when the Vehicle speed sensor sends a signal to the Transmission control module that the truck has reached the minimum speed and throttle angle for lock up to take place, it then activates a switch inside the transmission that locks up the torque converter clutch.

I have a 1993 mercury grand marquis and reverse doesn't work after it warms up. It does work when cold.

You can check with a local transmission shop, but usually the problem is a worn band or a weak pump. The reverse band also affects low gear.
There may also be a solenoid involved.

My 2001 grand marquis hestitates and shutters slighty when downshifting from 4th to 3rd gear, shutting off overdrive eliminates problem

The first thing to do here is to have the transmission fluid changed, the shudder is torque converter clutch chatter, just like a burned clutch in a manual transmission car. The new fluid renews the anti friction additives and in most cases eleiminates the problem, have the transmission flushed so all fluid is replaced.

Put 1 quart of dextron III/mercon in a transmission that calls for mercon v what should i do.its a 1997 mercury grand marquis

1 quart probably won`t have much of a affect on the transmission as there is about 10-12 quarts in the transmission to start with.the only way to fix it is to do a transmission service and change all the fluid and the fluid in the torque converter it has a drain plug that you will have to find so you can drain it.

How do you change the transmission fluid on a 2000 Mercury Marquis?

you must drop the pan on the transmission, and I recommend draining the torque converter as well. you must rotate the engine by hand until the converter plug is visible in the access hole in the transmission. replace the filter and re-use the gasket if its the reusable factory gasket ( has hard inserts around each bolt hole) then re-fill the transmission through the filler tube on the right side of the engine compartment. be sure to use Mercon V fluid.

I am going to change the transmission oil and filter i am asking if there is a drain plug on the torque converter to drain the oil out

the newer cars dont have a converter drain plug like the mid 90's and up thats why the came out with the power flush system to flush all the trans fluid at once . you need to be more specific with year make and model and engine size but im sure this will answer your question

Rumbling in the transmission

If this is a feeling like going over rumble strips then it is coming from the lock up torque converter. Usually having the fluid completely flushed and an additive such as shudderguard added will take care of the problem within 250 miles (usually sooner).Otherwise the torque converter will need to be replaced.
