Adjusting bands is too old school for that model. You have to overhaul it and put in new clutch packs.

SOURCE: Transmission overhauled, however, band overadjusted

Bands are not adjustable. Why do you think it's a band issue? The band only comes on during manual second gear, not second gear while in drive. It sounds like a check ball was inadvertently left out of the valve body during reassembly.

95 jeep Cherokee parts interchanges with a 1989 thru 1995 chevy 4x4 silverado

another 350 hydramatic turbo transmission would be the simplest change out . Interchanging with different transmission can become a very costly exercise
MY question is have you had the problem properly diagnosed by an accredited transmission shop or are you just going on the recommendation of a local mechanic that the transmission is shot and you need a new one
From your description it could be servo/solenoid or band and clutch adjustments
Have you had an oil pressure test done , had the oil changed
All that I have suggested can be done in car by an accredited shop

How do you adjust the transmission bands on a 1989 jeep cherokee

get yourself a work shop manual and an inch pound tension wrench. remove the transmission pan and filter . follow the procedure for adjustment from the manual.. If you find that too expensive then have an accredited transmission shop do it.

Jeep stalls or runs ruff when shifted to reverse tranny was rebuilt not sure if bands were adjusted properly

Hello. Your engine might be burning transmission fluid when shifted into reverse. If bands were out of adjustment, it just wouldn't move...or very slowly.

you need to have the bands adjusted in the transmission.. jeeps are known for this issue... takes maybe an hour to adjust all the bands and can be done by just removing the transmission pan and adjusting... if you feel this is something you can do let me know and i will give you a step by step walk through on how to repair..

1996 jeep grand cherokee limited the thing runs like a champ it is just slipping in reverse, is there a adjustment for this? has a 5.2L engine

If the trans fluid isn't low. Then check for a burnt smell...either way ur trans is going out. There are things u can do to prolong it's life. Change the fluid and filter. Come to a complete stop before changing from a drive gear to reverse or reverse to a drive gear. Hope this helps !

My '94 Grand Cherokee Limited has no power in reverse.

It sounds like the reverse band is out of adjustment. Three things can cause this, reverse band, front clutch and the overdrive direct clutch. To test the band, drive the truck in manual low up to 25 mph. Then let off, if the transmission doesn't pull the engine down, the band needs adjusted. If the front clutch is the problem, 3rd gear will be act weird too. The only test I know of for the overdrive direct is to inspect it, so process of elimination will have to work. Hopefully the problem is the band, because you can pull the pan, service the trans, adjust the band, and be done. Any of the other problems and you are looking at a rebuild. Good luck.

Where are bands located on 1996 jeep cherokee transmission and can they be tightened?

THE BANDS ARE LOCATED INSIDE YOUR TRANSMISSION AND THE CAN BE ADJUSTED. HOWEVER THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF THIS VEHICLE. GOOD LUCK.
