How to tell if front strut is bad? 2003 ford escape

I have replaced with one off a wrecked car and I noticed that after attaching the top (4) bolts under hood the part that attaches to the hub will turn 90 degrees left or right. is this normal?

The part that you describe is the wheel alignment adjuster. If you have described it properly it will have 4 studs ,be in a rubber mount and have a bearing inside it and sits on top of the insert up in the inner guard. It should be allowed to spin freely when out of the vehicle. If it didn't then the bearing is probably faulty. That part is a replacement part and when faulty contributes to hard steering

Change CV joint without disturbing an alignment?

Not all struts are adjustable there . Most times the strut is held on to the stub axle with two bolts one is off set if adjustable . center pop the bolt and housing so it be refitted in the same place.

HOW TO INSTAL QUICK STRUTS ON A CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO 2003

Hello dedime,
Removal

1. Remove the nuts and bolt attaching the top of the strut assembly to the body.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

3. Place jack stands under the front cross member.

4. Lower the vehicle slightly so that the weight of vehicle rests on the jack stands and not on the control arms.

Notice: Care must be exercised to prevent the drive axle joints from being over-extended. When either end of the shaft is disconnected, over-extension of the joint could result in separation of the internal components and possible joint failure. Drive axle joint boot protectors should be used any time service is performed on or near the drive axles. Failure to observe this can result in interior joint or boot damage and possible joint failure.

5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

6. Remove the brake line bracket.

7. Scribe the strut flange.

Important: The steering knuckle must be supported in order to prevent axle joint over-extension.

8. Remove the bolts and the nuts attaching the strut to the steering knuckle.

Notice: Care should be taken to avoid scratching or cracking the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Damage can cause premature failure.

9. Remove the strut from the Vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Care should be taken to avoid scratching or cracking the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Damage can cause premature failure.

1. Install the strut into position and install the nuts and one bolt connecting the strut to the body. Hand tighten the nuts and the bolt.

2. Align the steering knuckle with the strut flange scribe mark and install the bolts and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 180 Nm (133 ft. lbs.).

3. Tighten the nuts and bolt attaching the top of the strut to the body. Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

4. Install the brake line bracket.

5. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

6. Inspect the front wheel alignment.

How do I replace my front left strut assembly on my 2002 Ford Escape? I have the replacement strut assembly I just need to know how to remove the old and install the new. Thanks

theres not really much anyone can tell you except for remove the top 3 nuts under the hood, and there is either either 1 or 2 bolts that hold it to the knuckle. take the bolts out of the knuckle before the nuts under the hood. you have to beat the knuckle off the strut THEN remove the 3 bolts under the hood and thats about it... may be a brake line attatched also but just a bolt holding it there. this is only if you have a ready made strut and spring assembly. installing springs is a whole different thing...

How do I replace my front passenger turn signal on my 2003 Ford Escape?

well its a tricky situation, we do not know if this is the best way but we made it work...

1. start the engine and turn the tires to the left all the way, shut off the engine. in front of the front passenger tire there will be 4 phillup head screws. remove all 4 phillup head screws that are attached to the bumper molding, and remove the 10 millimeter hex head bolt that is near the bottom screw. then spread the plastic molding away from the bumber molding which will give you limited access to the blinker bulb assembly. now this is the tight spot. quarter turn counter clickwise and remove the bulb assembly from the lamp fixture. carefully spread the tabs that hold the bulb assembly to the socket. and then replace and remove the bulb and then put it all together again. or you could go and get it fixed. Good luck!

Loud noise in rear of car. sounds like a loose 2003 ford taurus

it is quite possible that you have a bad strut mount, noticeable by rubber moving from metal, or a leaking strut, looking at the strut you would see hydraulic fluid on it. also sometimes removal and disassembly is the only way to tell. also you could check for bad sway bar links or bushings. hope this helps

2003 Protege5 front suspension knocking noise

front stuts need replacement, buy this point it would be both. you can tell most of the time buy if you hit a pot hole on the left and it makes a nosie thats the side. but after a few days of driving like this both are in bad shape and need replacement.

there is no bearing its just the strut, you can tell buy getting a jack stand and lifting the front and moving the tire side to side and back to front. usaly anything over 10-20 thouthands of an inch is bad, and that mean if you feel it it's bad.

but anyways to replace it you will need a sop, you have to compress your front srping in order to remove and install a strut.

How to instll front struts on 1998 Ford Escort?

You "do not" need a strut spring compressor to change the struts on a 1998 ford escort.

Place the front of the car on jack stands, and remove the front tires.

Disconnect and remove the 2 bolts (at the bottom of the strut) that attach the strut to the knuckle (you may need air impact to break them free).

Remove the brake lines from the line retainer on the strut: If you open the brake lines you will need brake fluid, and need to bleed the brake system (to avoid opening the brake system, cut the line retainer from the old strut).

Inside the hood remove the circular cap that covers the top retaining nut on the strut. Remove the top retaining nut, then remove the strut.

Install new struts in reverse. To align the new strut to the knuckle, use a screwdriver to start the aligment, then insert the retaining bolts. If you cut the brake line retainers from the old struts, use plastic zip ties to attach the brake lines to the new struts.

Ford escape front end rattle

My wife's 20002 escape had a similiar issue. Whenever the front end on the driver side was compressed due to turns or bumps a clunking noise was heard. Then it happened to the other side later. The stabilizer rods on both sides had come loose. When you look at them you can't tell but, if you pull on them when someone bounces the front end up and down you can feel the ball bouncing in and out of the joints. The joints are made of plastic and wear out easily but are not too difficult to replace and are inexpensive.
