Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Nissan pathfinder le and had the distributor replaced 2 days ago, stalling and such, I've had the vehicle back since yesterday and now it's driving but chugging and not seeming to catch up, a lot of shaking, my question is what do I need to be looking at here, could this be a filter problem, it feels like the engine is being starved....Thank you

SOURCE: changed mass air sensor still stalling 1997 nissan pathfinder

As a factory Nissan trained Technician with dealership experience - it can be many things, but it sounds alot like a mis-adjusted or faulty TPS, and/or a faulty IAC(Idle air control) valve - I'd try the TPS and set to appx. .50 vdc (.47/.49) Volts DC and if that isn't it, I'd definitely look to the idle air control valve ( allows for air bypass - sometimes called bypass air control valve). May then need base timing and idle set at shop with OBDII ignition disabling option, for seting timing and idle, otherwise computer won't allow proper setting...then if connector to IAC is OK - should be just fine...

SOURCE: weired sound in engine arround 2100 rpm, pathfinder 2005

Take a look at Nissan Technical Service Bulletin NTB05-15b. Title = "Rattle Noise From Vias Power Valve Actuator / Intake Manifold Collector" This appears to describe your problem exactly. I have the same problem with my 2005 Xterra and I am going to try the recommended fix myself at home.

SOURCE: Vehicle: 1998 Nissan Pathfinder

Hello,
When the MAF on most vehicles reach a point of preventing the engine from starting, you can usually just unplug it and the engine will start. If that doesn't work-
You may want to try having the O2 sensor, ( Oxygen sensor ), checked. It works with other components of the emission system and can cause similar symptoms as the MAF, including preventing the engine from starting.

Testimonial: "Other similar issues are the cam position sensor, which is located inside the distributor. It's easier to just replace the distributor."

1998 Nissan Pathfinder stuck in Limp Mode just had the distributor & spark plugs replaced now the vehicle stumbles & is sluggish on take off ?

Sound's like the timing is off, check the timing. Firing order is 1-6 counter clockwise and the engine is Front pass side 1-3-5 drivers 2-4-6. Timing is 13-17 @ 700-800 rpm for manual trans and same for automatic (in neutral)
Hope this helps.
