Where is the ground strap on a '99 Ford Escort?

The engine block should be ground. Check between the poles on the battery for 12 volts. Then check between the positive pole on battery and engine block for 12 volts. If you don't get 12 volts between positive pole and engine block you may need a new ground cable or all negative connector cleaned and tightened.

How to change a bettery on a 2002 ford focus

Look at your old battery and make note of the brackets installation and the terminal (positive and negative ) locations. Remove the positive cable, then the negative cable where they attach to the battery poles. POSITIVE cables are normally RED.....NEGATIVE cables are normally BLACK. Remove the battery hold down bracket making sure you do not place anything metal across the two battery poles. Install the new battery into the battery tray, attach the hold down brackets, the attach the negative cable end then the positive end. BE VERY CAREFUL and DO NOT GET BATTERY ACID on you or SHORT ACROSS the battery poles with any metalic object. If you have not done this before and are buying a new battery from an auto center....they will...most times.....install the battery for you free of charge

After changing the battery there is no heat or air

When you change the battery, you should take off the negative
pole first and then disconnect the positive pole. wait at least 30 min and connect the positive pole first and the negative last.
Sometimes you have to drive your vehicle at least 10 miles so the car computer will acknowledge the change.

Brake lights stopped working then head lights started blowing now turn signals stopped working

I would put a voltmeter on it and check the charging system to make sure its not over charging or spiking. Also check all your battery connections positive and negative from battery to starter and negative from battery to engine to the frame. Make sure they are all clean and tight.

Which side is the positive and negative on starter

The casing on the starter is always the negative. One pole on the starter is for power and the smallest pole is for the ignition wire to link to, or it can be a plug on some cars and trucks. One of the larger poles will have a wire that goes into the starter that is not the pole that you should ever put the cable from the battery on it will be the pole that does not have a wire on it.

As seen in this pic terminal M has the wire that goes to the starter that should never have a wire atached to it from the battery. Terminal S is the ingition wire, and terminal B is the pole for the battery cable. The holes for the casing are the ground from the motor to the starter. I hope that this helps you.

Ford e350 van idle relearn after MAF replacement

Whenever you try to reset your vehicle's computer after any
repairs, disconnect the battery negative pole first and positive pole last. Wait 20 mins and reconnect your negative pole first and then the positive.
You may have to drive your car for at least 10 miles or more to see if it worked.

2011 SEL. V6 Duratec DOHC. After battery change,AC only blows hot air, compressor working. Followed instructions in manual for resetting idle and fuel trim. Did it 2x, but still no AC.

You may want to disconnect your battery again, First Disconnect the Negative pole first then the Positive pole. Wait 20 to 30 minutes and connect the Positive pole first, Make shure that you disconnect the Negative pole first and connect the Negative pole last. This will give the vehicle's computer a chance to reset the settings. You may have to drive your vehicle for 10 miles or more to see if this advice worked. If not, go toyour local Automotive store to seek advice, specially Auto Zone.

Where do you jump start a 2001 reg S class from. i have just brought one but cant get into the boot

Hi,
Jump starting means, connecting two cables to boost the power of your battery from another power source( another normal powered battery ).
You must look first for your battery, that is located in the engine compartment.
Connect a jump cables from the positive( + ) pole of your battery to another car w/ the same voltage of battery, connect another cable to negative( - ) pole of the another battery to your engine expose metal ground. DO NOT START YOUR ENGiNE/TURN ON. Let the other car start the engine, let it charge for 15 minutes.
Then, pull out the cables attach to your battery and to another. YOU MAY TURN YOUR ENGiNE and START the engine.
Hope that fixes your problem!
Thanks for using Fixya!

Won't start

It is usually marked on the casing. +(or a red marker around the pole) is positive. If you havent removed the battery connect a bulb between one of the poles a piece of bare metal (ie engine). If the bulb lights up you're on the positive. If you have already removed the battery use a multimeter and measure voltage across the poles on the battery, if the meter gives a positive reading the red test lead is on the positve. If it gives a negative reading ie -12.35V(digital meter) the red is on negative. If you have an analogue meter(a meter using a needle) it will swing to the left when red lead is on neg.
