Question about 1994 Geo Prizm

2 Answers

My interior light does not work. I have replaced the light and it still does not work.

I cannot figure out why it will not work, but if it helps to figure out the cause/solution, my memory wire on my radio does not work either. If the memory wire has nothing to do with it, I know that the constant power wire usually has a fuse somewhere in the wiring. Could somebody tell me where that fuse is, if that's not the problem to the interior light.

OWN a $8 DMM meter> its easy. (no computers here)

i guess you lost the cover that names them and lost the operators guide, in the glove box,? both?
what interior lamp, there are many some cars 20 or more.
DOME lamps? or dash lamps, and if dash what.
i have the full prism drawings. so ill try to find this out with bad inputs.
your statement about memory wire is wrong, many cars the dome lamp runs the ECU and radio memory.
can I assume all else works head lights and parking lights (tail)
The DOME fuse is marked DOME.
and runs the doom and all door active overhead lamps.
5 lamps total, luggage, dome, and personal.
if the main light, (it has its own switch) is dead that means
the lamp is bad or the fuse DOME is blown.
the fuse will have 12vdc on both sides
in fact one side goes directly to the battery main fuse.
i then open the radio page and the clock and radio memory
both get power from DOME fuse.
so this time test the fuse.
or learn where it is.
so i google for you and 2nd hit, wins
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/130-7th-generation-1993-1997/355587-94-fuse-box-diagram.html

rule of fuses
if they look bad they are.
if they look good, they can be in fact, bad (hair cracks)
that is why we use a volt meter live to test them.
dome works key off
so 12vdc on both sides, all day.

the dome fues is top center here, silly how we cant show bigger.?

I did not know for sure how the wiring went. But the dome light and the cargo/trunk light neither one work and never have. My headlights, tail lights, runnning lights, dash lights, everything works except my dome light, trunk light, and memory wire

now you have it all, but why do all that, use any voltmeter then measure all fuses, left and right, the one not hot, left and right, is dome, the dome fuse is hot 24/7 so... is so easy to find. in the engine bay, that is how;d id have done this , no books, at all. as they say, check all fuses first. (that means with a voltmeter or test lamp or buzzer)

he and you are, in the wrong box. open hood, replace dome fuse, its clearly marked, but he can in fact login to alldata.com and read all that,

  • jeff5may32 Dec 19, 2014

In my original post, the fuse is #13 on the page with the 3 different fusebox configurations for 3 different engine. It's under the hood, right by the battery. It works all kinds of things that run off constant battery power. Dome lights, trunk light, door ajar light, radio memory, etc.

that is correct, cars wiring do very by engine, and many other things., even COUNTRY. not one of which was disclosed by OP... but then nobody every does, we must drag it out kicking and screaming... the dome light is hot (works key off) all the time., and is used for memory funcitions on ECU and Radio. on many many cars this era.

Corroded fuse connection.Interior lights are on the same fuse.Pull cover off the fuse panel, fuse placement diagram is on back side of panel cover.Clean the fuse or replace it.Those connections are vital and you may have to put some type of extra metal or foil in with the blades of the fuse if the fuse is loose in the panel to tighten the connection also.May not be corroded, just a loose connection.

Interior lights come on when car is not in use draining the battery- 2000 grand marquis

You possibly have a bad/ shorted door switch. On each doorpost there is a little push in switch that activates the interior lights when the door is opened - if any of these switches short, the lights go on which will drain your battery. You'll need to figure out which switch is messing up and replace that switch. When you open and close your doors, do the lights go on and off respectively? This will take some time to figure out as your car has a delay on the lights to give you time to get the key in the ignition. It is possible that one of the switches has dirty or corroded contacts ( but not very likely ) . This could be a time consuming endeavor and, short of unplugging each door switch, will continue to kill your battery unless you disconnect the battery when parking for long periods ( like at work or overnight).
Hope this helps and please rate my solution!!

I bought a 96 jeep cherokee sport & the interior lights only come on for the front passenger door. the three other doors & the hatch dont turn on the interior lights & i cant find any fuse box...

Can you turn on the lights with the Interior light switch?. If a light works, obviously the fuse is good. You will need a wiring diagram and a test light to figure out where to start.

Is there wiring for the interior lights under the hood on a 1995 Dodge Ram? The interior lights don't work and the fuse is okay. My son put in a new steering column and the dash lights are not working.

Not sure about the 95's, but on my 04 dodge ram the interior lights went out, and the dash lights, and I about pulled my hair out trying to figure it out. After a year of driving around in the dark I finally brought it to the dealership. It needs a whole new instrument panel. There is a module built into the instrument panel that controls the lights. When it goes bad you need to replac the whole damn thing. Heres the kicker, the mileage is also built into the instrument panel, so the dealer charges about a grand to get the part with the correct mileage and fix it. You can get one on ebay cheap, but its illegal to tamper with the mileage, which is also built into the trucks computer. Installing a new part will not sync the mileage. On the other hand, your is only a 95, you may be able to just replace the dimmer switch, I did that on a 94 hyndai excel and it worked. Hope this helps. If anything get a tough light and some duck tape.
