My 1986 f150 4 wheel drive w/automatic transmission won't shift out of park even with all linkage disconnected

Your transmission is broken inside. There are shifting forks and linkage inside that jammed up - due to the delicate nature of the linkage, it is likely it bent. Remove the side plate the linkage bar hooks to and carefully remove plate to inspect for disconnected or bent linkage. If the plate won't come off, then the transmission will need to be disassembled to fix.

How do i access and fix the linkage on a 2000 Buick Regal??

Im assuming you mean the transmission shifter linkage - problem is that car has a cable. You can see the cable on top of the transmission if you look straight down from the throttle body.

Door handle from the inside will not open the door on my 2008 satern astra

If its anything like my 99 Saturn SL2 was, the linkage probably just slipped apart. If you take the door panel off and trace the linkage from the handle, there should be a couple points where the metal rod has a 90 degree bend and slips into a sleeve. Just check that all the linkages are together.

Welcome to Fixya

Most of the problems with manual transmissions are in either the clutch, clutch linkage or the shift linkage so try and look at them first. Both could cause your problem. Fixing the clutch linkage might require removing the transmission to get at the throw out bearing and associated parts.
Fixing the clutch will require removing the transmission. And once you get the transmission out of the car a mechanic should be able to tell where the problem is. It would be best also if you run a scan tool and see if it will give you error code. Provide mo the code so that we can work this things out.
Thank you for using Fixya!

My 66 mustang automatic will not shift into park or reverse

You have ti figure out if the problen is in the transmission or external linkage. This is how you do that. Block the rear wheel and apply the park brake. Disconnect the shifter linkage from the transmission. The shifter should detent in 6 different places, if it does not you have an internal trans issue that should be able to fix by tightening a nut, If it does then you have something broken or most like loose in the linkage.

What is wrong with your transmission when it is completely gone. (No reverse, drive, second, etc., nothing) Was driving down the highway and the truck suddenly seemed to be in neutral.

first thing i would do is put it on a lift and have someone move the shifter while i watched the linkage
on the transmission. if the linkage is broken it will be obvious and you can fix it. if the linkage is fine then i would check my drivetrain warranty, possibly 10yrs/100kmiles, if not in warranty then take it to a transmission shop.

Hello
Try this. Disconnect the transmission linkage under the hood at the
colum. Now try moving the shift lever,if it functions normaly, check the
linkage from the colum to the transmission to see if it is bent or bound up. If you still can't shift with the linkage disconnected, the problem is
inside the colum. The easiest fix is to get a used colum.
If you have a cable. Disconnect it at the transmission first. if it still won't
shift, disconnect the cable at the colum. If it shifts, replace the cable.
If not. You're back to replacing the colum. In either case, block the wheels, and make sure the linkage connection at the transmission moves freely. Hope this helps. Good luck.
