Hi i have a 97 chevy vortec 5.7 with 312,588 miles my transmission went out its a 4L60E and i really tired of automatic i want a manual and since i gotta replace the trans anyway what better time i know i need rhe clutch pedeal and cut a hole in the floorbbut what else is needed and how hard is it to do

Before you embark on this project remember that all the pressing for a manual box are already in the body work of the vehicle. Find a wrecker that has your make of vehicles and study what you need and how it is fitted. If the wrecker allows it remove the gear yourself and then you will know how to refit it in your vehicle. the list is , flywheel clutch kit , gear box, gear linkage, clutch pedal clutch master cylinder ( cable if that is what is used) , slave cylinder , under dash pedal mounts , probably a different drive shaft or front axles if transverse engine. Research before spending money will save heaps. check the condition of your vehicle as it may be cheaper in the long run to get a rolling shell (manual) and transfer all the good bits to it.instead of remodelling yours.

    you will need considerable mechanical ability and a good support crew with knowledge on how to do things. (Not yard tree mechanics). Plenty of time and money and a good shed. Do your homework on the costs as it may end cheaper to just up grade to a manual vehicle.

The front seal could be replaced, and not have a problem. If you have a shop other than a transmission shop do the repairs, make sure the torque converter hub is inspected to make certain its not scratched/scorn. If the trans shifts properly and the fluid is not burned or smells burned, this would be an easy repair. If the trans fluid smells burned, and hasn't been serviced regularly, the rebuild would be the way to go. Also, ask what the warranty for any and all repair are on your vehicle. Normal warranty is 1yr, 12.000 miles in the automotive business.

What transmission does your trailblazer have ? automatic or manual ? If automatic 4L60E , it has no vacuum hose's ,unless you or someone else modified it . E in 4L60E stands for electronic . Back in the day there were vacuum hose's going to the automatic trans 1 to the vacuum modulator valve .

HI, i have a 93 chevy k1500 4x4 with a 305 and a 4l60e transmission, the transmission was just installed it is out of a 1997 chevy This transmission had a neutral safety switch and the guy who installed it...


Sounds like he might have pinched some wires. Now for the worse news, the transmission out of a 1997 'WILL' not work properly in a 1993, one is a PWM (97) unit the other is not(93).

Nothing after 1995, because from 1996 on the transmissions are for OBD II. Your truck has OBD I.

If your truck has right at 50,000 miles on it, the transmission fluid and filter must be changed. This may help, although in my thirty-five years of mechanic experience, and twenty years' worth of GM 4L60E automatic transmission service, this transmission is in bad shape internally and will most likely have to be completely rebuilt.

So your current transmission is a 4L60E. t is a very strong automatic. You can also convert to a 5 speed or utilize the 700R4 automatic that is non electronic. Hope this helps narrow your search. Please rate me highly.
