Check the belt idler for bad bearing (common problem),and or the chain tensioner with a stethescope, the auto repair will try and sell you a new timming chain, the tensioner can be replaced from the out side of the engine

The belt may be loose or the tension idler may be failing.

Hello gang,I'm having a problem identifying a rattling noise coming from my water pump area,it only happens after the engine is warm and I accelerate, and it doesn't stop until I stop pressing gas.

if water pump is external
take the drive belt off spin the water pump by hand
see if it rocks

if a serp belt pop off the serp belt
check all the tensioner pulleys and alternator the same way

if water pump is internal timing belt and water pump replaced at the same time

I have a rattling noise coming from the area near the timing belt cover i think....

Hi Kathryn

Probably a loose timing chain

There is probably a tensioner inside that needs tweaking

My 1998 sebring 6cyl makes a metal on metal noise on the side of my engine by the belts i tried greaseing all the pullys and i used belt noise sparay but it becomes lower and then it becomes higher ???...

sounds to me from the brief description like you have either a water pump rattling, or a timing chain coming slack. Is the noise coming from the alternator? Never grease pulleys, ever. also the stop squeak spray is bad for your belts. Don't know why they even sell it. If you listen carefully you may be able to pin point the rattle. Is this a tick tick tick, or a rattle rattle rattle? Does sound like a water pump rattle or timing chain slap though. Hope this helps

Mitsubishi mighty max 3.0 v8 loud noise coming from the fan area

If the fan is attached to the water pump tahe hold of a blade and try back and forward towards the motor. If there is movement there it will be either a fan hub failing or a water pump bearing. Second check remove the fan belt and check for noise.( idle engine for short period of time) If it is gone confirm pump by spinning any adjuster pulleys and check for noise or rough movement

It's like a rattling loud noise that comes out from the camshaft sprockets and timing belt on my 1998 dodge caravan 2.4 engine. it started while running on the road.

Could be the timing belt tensioner. They are known to make a rattling noise when worn and/or the belt has stretched....When is the last time you had the belt serviced? They should be replaced and pulleys inspected at 100,000 miles. Gates recommends 120,000 miles on their belts. Good luck, i hope this helps.

Rattling coming from timing belt case

It looks like it is time to replace your timing belt; the rattle is an indicator of the belt being stretched, and when it is stretched, it makes a rattle noise.

When I crank it up I have a rattling noise coming from around the pulleys and front of the engine

Take off the belt and start it up to see if it still does it. IF yes it is likely in the timing belt area. If no wiggle the serp belt pulleys to find one that moves.

2002 cavalier engine noise

Hello there Its a Known problem with these engines..The lifters are usually the case to thes problem or the rocker arms are coming loose.Take off valve cover and start to find the bad one..Oil will leak over head but is the only way to pin point the problem. If the sound is a little lower in the motor It might have a sloppy rist pin in the cylinder causing the piston to slap the side walls..If it does it at an idle or under a load its the rist pin.If it does it at all different rpm and doesnt matter if its under load its the lifter area. Now the timing chain.Could case all thee above. So a way to check that is as long as you got the belt off grab a hold off the crank pulley and rock it back and forth. If you feel it grab a few inches side to side iits really loose and thats your problem. If it doesnt have much slop back and forth and turns the cam quickly the move on to the other parts I have stated. These steps will help you to solve the problem.I hope this helps you and good luck..Have a great after noon...
