My best advise is to get a Chiltons/Haynes repair manual that covers your year/make/model. There is an entire section on this area of your car, together with a fuse/relay panel schematic and troubleshooting. Some interior light systems are like older exterior lights, in that, if one burns out, the rest won't work. Also, when you say your checked your fuses, did you test them or just do a visual check. With the old cylinder glass fuses it was easy to see if they were blown, but newer ones, not so much. And, as with any electrical system, if someone tries, or has tried, to add stereo equipment, light effects, etc, it can mess up the whole thing if a professional isn't the one doing the work.

If your interior lights are the only thing not working then it may not be a fuse issue. Generally there is more than one accessory on a fuse circuit. There may be short in the circuit or a bad switch. Do your courtesy lights work? (i.e., when you open and close the doors?). If not then try working that switch manually and listen for a faint click that will indicate the switch is trying to work.

So, my tail light on nissan maxima 2004 were out, the fuse was blown so I replaced it. Tail light work but dashboard lights are out when lights are on, in all positions, switch them off and dashboard lights...

dashboard lights are brighter when lights are off so you can see stuff in the daylight-check and make sure you have the correct bulb and its plugged in correctly-something is confusing the cpu-a blown fuse usually means something is shorted out-check for cut or bare wires around your tailamps-cheers Denny

Taillights go out when dome light is on

I'm not an expert on the electrical part of the 04 maxima. But I noticed on one of the websites I normally visit that it could be a blown bulb on the passenger side vanity mirror. Here's the quote:

2004 Maxima Tail Lights and Parking Lights fuse blows when interior dome light is on Discovered that my tail lights and parking lights fuse (next to the window washer box which took me a couple of hours to find!) would blow everytime I turned interior dome light on. First I thought it was my Ipod and then maybe moisture was getting in through a small crack in the left rear tail light. Sat in my car last night with a box of fuses and did everything one at a time. It was the turning on of my dome light that caused the fuse to blow. It was instant. I have a blown bulb in the passenger side vanity sun-viser flap. I will change that tomorrow and post an update.

He hasn't updated on the results of changing his vanity mirror bulb. I hope this helps...I hate car electrical problems...So hard to diagnose...

My 2004 maxima rear lights dont work but brake lights do can it be a fuse or the bulb

Could be either one. I'd start by checking the fuse, and if it is okay then checking the bulb. Both sides could have the bulb go out at the same time, but it is more likely the fuse, and the brake lights work off a different circuit. Hope this helps. Good luck :O)

look for a fuse, inside fuse box cab, or plate lights, perhaps other items don't work at the same time, look for any loose wire in trunk area
