SOURCE: oil & filter change

Oil is one of the most important items inside your engine. It has a dual function...it keeps internal components from touching each other and wearing out, it also serves as a secondary cooling system.
Oil also carries away debris and moves it to the oil filter, holding smaller particles in suspension to prevent deposits.
Your vehicle is like a person that has a bad kidney and must go for dyalisis periodically. If not, bad stuff in their blood will kill them.
In all the years I've been in the auto industry, I have never seen anyone that had an engine failure of any kind from changing their oil too often. I have seen hundreds that did not change their oil with disasterous results.
Manufacturers have attempted to capitalize on the fact that the oil products we have today are far better than those we had years ago. What customer would not want a vehicle that was maintenence free? Oil filters used today are a bit better than older ones, but are also smaller. They do not have the holding capacity needed to operate properly over extended change intervals. When full, oil bypasses the filter and continues along through the engine.
These are the facts...Now here is what I think.
If you intend to keep your vehicle for any period of time, use the best oil available (I prefer synthetics) and change the oil filter at least every 4,000 miles. Then, you could follow mfg change schedule with some confidence. With a good synthetic, you could actually run all the way to 10,000miles with a "halftime" filter change. If using conventional oils, I would prefer to see oil changed every 4K or slightly less, along with filter. Don't forget...the dealer only needs your vehicle to last as long as the warranty, and actually needs it to fail after that so they can sell you a new one.
You would likely want it to last far longer!!! This applies to all fluids...coolant, brake fluid diff lube and trans oil...change more often and everything lasts longer!!!
Good luck with your car!!!

How do I turn off abs on a 2009 jeep compass

question is why you want to turn of a brake safety feature, if you are refering to a light on the dash it usually means this system has malfunctioned and will default to "normal" braking rather than anti lock, best to have a shop check it out reasonably soon, you are safer with ABS.

In my 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2.5TD the compass backlight is not working when the lights are on. The volt meter on the left and oil pressure on the right are both OK. Is this simply a blown bulb ? and...

The bulbs work when the ignition is switched on. There are two very small bulbs at the back of the compass and can be sourced from a main dealer for around £5 a pair. Part Number MMR283314. Don't forget to order two, they come in single packs. They burn out quicker than the normal bulbs as they are on, even when other dash lights are not. The main dealer will probably have to order the bulbs from Mitsubishi UK.

To fit: Prise off the top of the instrument cluster with a flat screwdriver. Remove two screws to release the pod from the top of the dash. Once free, unclip the wiring loom plug and socket.

Dismantle the instrument pod by removing four small screws. This will then allow you to remove a further six similar screws which hold the front 'glass' and instruments together.

Undo the wire connector on the compass. You may have to also take out the bulb holder from one of the guages to give you enough slack.

Once the wire is undone, you can slip the compass from the pod and you will see two deep holes in the back. Use a flat screw driver to reach down into the holes and engage the slots on the back of each compass bulb holder.

Turn the bulb holder a few degrees to release and withdraw.

Reassemble by reversing these instructions.

The light that illuminates the shifter position is out. Its an automatic transmission.

In the console shift, it is a light bulb in a holder.

Open the center console lid, and in the indent for the console cover / trim panel, pull up. The entire silver/gray colored cover ( where the cup holders are at ) will lift off.
You will see the light holder under the console trim plate ( the silver trim ring ).
