If the back wheels are still on the ground then it will not turn until you lift one wheel of the ground. In 4wd the front and rear drive shafts are locked together. There is no diff in the transfer case.

yes, good, no then transfer case
yes then front axle lock failure. the FSM covers all this.
my wanglers all have part time 4wd drive. not AWD.
so do the testing on dirt or damage the transfer case.
wind up is bad.
the car has no center differential. so do not drive it on pavement ice free. in 4wd. or bam, bad happens.

89 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 wont go in and the transforcase works just the front axel wont engage

There is an electric switch on the front axle toward the passenger side. These are notorious for failing and they aren't too expensive. If you have a test light you can check for power at the wires before you replace it.

Will engage transfer case does but not front axles

Are your hubs locked? I assume your prop shaft is turning and your front wheels are not. If just one of the hubs is unlocked the wheels wont turn. If you push a button to enage the front wheels there are lots of sensors and servos to consider.
more info required such as the year and model.

4 wheel drive wont engage on my 97 f150

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

I would suspect that the front drive shaft will not turn, and the issue is with the vacuum shift for the front axle.

The vacuum disconnect motor is on the front axle ( item #10 in the picture below )

The vacuum solenoids are mounted on the firewall, and take vacuum from the vacuum reservoir to move the shift motor when the GEM ( Generic Electrical Module ) calls for a mode ( 2WD or 4WD ).
The Pink line will have vacuum on it when in 2WD mode, the Light Blue when in 4WD.
Use a vacuum gauge to verify that the vacuum is on the line when selecting the mode.

I have a ford f 150,v8 engine and my 4 wheel drive wont work now, can it be just a fuse?

Is the system ESOF ( Electronic Shift On the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift On the Fly ) ?

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

I would suspect that the front drive shaft does not turn, and the issue is with the vacuum lines for the front axle.

You can check the vacuum lines with the engine running, and have a vacuum gauge on the front disconnect motor. Pink line is 2WD operation ( unlocks the front axle ) Light Blue is the 4WD operation ( locks the axle ).

The disconnect motor is on the front axle, item #10 in the picture below

1999 tracker, when I enaged the 4x4 it only stay in for a few seconds. It doesn't matter if it's 4h or low.It does enage into the transfer case.

you'll need to get it up on a lift or some level ground+ 4 jack stands now with all 4 in the air have somone
in the car to start and engage the 4wd if the output
shaft is turning into the differential and does not stop
turning if the wheels do you may have a bad hub
