Question about 2001 Ford Mustang V6
It is 45 degrees here today. Warm, for us for December in Indiana. My car has been fine in cold weather so far. But today, I started it and the engine ran rough at first, with gear shift handle shaking. When I shifted into first or second it would shake and I thought I heard a clunk in the back. I drove it back home. Then drove around the block and it shifted and ran fine. I just let it sit a few minutes. It has not started rough like that yet this winter and we have had temps in the teens. Mileage is 146,000. Car has new IAC few weeks ago, has had head gasket and air intake replaced, if that makes a difference. I am not a backyard mechanic but will have my mechanic check trans fluid Monday.

CODE P500 VSS NO SIGNAL.PROBLEM COULD BE CONNECTOR TO VSS IS SHORTED OR THE MAGNET GEAR ON TRANSMISSION DRIVE SHAFT COULD BE BROKEN OR MISSING TEETH.

Always start with check engine issues first and repair them,then move on to no code symptoms. Go to shop with a good scan tool ,not a $200.00 auto part store frebee and no code book

Engine stalls or RPM
fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.
This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
