2003 town car has leaking oil filter housing, what is necessary to fix and what the entire job will cost

it could be a simple replacement of the oil filter, remove the extra oil filter gasket left on when the filter was changed
excessive tightening of the filter
or replacement of the gasket for the housing mount
until you know exactly what is causing the leak , the cost cannot be calculated

Oil pouring out of oil filter housing after oil change

With a new oil filter I rub oil on the rubber gasket on the filter, thread the filter onto the housing finger tight and then give an extra quarter to half turn to seat the gasket. The housing should be wiped clean, first. BUT YOU KNEW THAT...

Just had my oil changed and now I have a service engine soon light that will not go out

Most likely the air flow sensor was left of the intake hose going from the air filter housing to the air intake of your motor. Also the light may come on if the sensor was released while the key was turned on but the engine was turned off. If you can take a look under your hood and look for the air filter housing. Once you find it follow the Large air hose that goes into the motor. On this hose there should be a sensor plug in for the air flow sensor wire. If there is nothing plugged into try to locate the wire and plug it in. Once you have it plugged in or if it was plugged in try disconnecting your positive battery cable for about 10 minutes to reset the check engine light. Be careful when disconnecting the battery not to touch any metal with the end of your wrench or ratchet. Hope this works for you..

VSC light and check engine light intermittently coming on. some time transmission fees sluggish too are these related> ls400 159K miles

Yes. Did you recently have the oil changed?Air Filter? Alot of techs accidentally disconnect hoses to Air Filter housing. Check hoses, Oxygen sensor could need replacement. Try reseting the sensor lights by disconnecting the negative (-) battery cable for 20 seconds then reconnect and start car. Lights should be reset. If they come back on take to dealer or to AutoZone where they can do a free analysis of engine codes

Oil leak?

Sounds like the garage either installed a filter with a faulty gasket or the oil filter is not tightened, or there is trash under the oil filter gasket.

I'd remove the oil filter, clean gasket seat on block, clean oil filter gasket, check gasket for nicks/defects, reinstall oil filter if gasket is good, hand tighten (but tight as you can get it) and try again.

My oil filter is leaking and it is tight

If anyone else has this problem, I'm betting its your oil filter adapter gasket. Of course check to see if the problem is just a bad oil filter seal but mine was not. The oil filter adapter is like 10 - $15 at Auto Zone or Napa. If you feel you can't do the job yourself then take it to the auto repair shop. It's only four bolts and change out the gasket but you must drain the coolant cause the water run through the same housing and it's kind of a pain to get to on the vehicle. Napa gasket p/n is 70801

Oil leaks from the oil filter adapter

If it is not the suggested gasket that is leaking then it is the oil pressure switch located exactly above the oil filter adapter. The black plastic housing could have developed a crack and oil will ooze downward and drip off the bottom of the adapter. I had this problem and changing the oil pressure switch took care of it.
