I have a Kubota KX36-3 1.5ton Excavator, Machine running but not charging the battery up. I have had the alternator checked and is good. I have checked the wire from alternator to battery and getting contanuty. Is there anything you can help with. Kev

As you may well be aware, Kubota USA does not offer any support for your tractor. This is because that model is a "gray market" item (that has been banned for importation in 1997). Kubota initiated this legal action because the unauthorized importation, distribution and sale of Kubota "gray market" tractors by individuals or companies independent of Kubota adversely affected Kubota's reputation in the United States and with the United States consumer. Following an extensive evidentiary hearing in the Fall of 1996, the United States International Trade Commission affirmed a finding by the Administrative Law Judge that the importation, distribution and sale of these "gray market" tractors infringed upon Kubota's registered trademark, issued a General Exclusion Order prohibiting further importation, and issued various Cease and Desist Orders against the respondents. The Court of Appeals affirmed the Commission decision. Such "gray market" items typically are of inferior quality and/or workmanship.

Most likely yes, it is an 8. Best thing to do is take the bracket off the alternator to remount it. Then put the alt back on with slide/adjuster loose.

That would depend on if it has an electric fuel solenoid or mechanical. If you have to pull a lever or knob to get the engine to die when you want to shut it off, it wouldn't matter if the alternator is charging or not, the engine will keep running until it runs out of fuel. If the engine dies when you turn off the key, this would indicate an electric fuel cut off and should shut off when the battery cable is removed if the alternator is not charging. But I think the best way to check your alternator is with a multi meter or at least a volt meter. With the engine running you should have at least 12.5V to 13.5V at the battery at idle.

It isn't a good idea to disconnect the battery while it is running as the resulting voltage surge can damage electronics. Obviously if it isn't charging there won't be much of a surge...

Some alternators are mounted in rubber to cut noise and vibration. This type needs a ground wire which is sometimes forgotten during replacement and sometimes the ground wire just breaks.

A standard alternator only needs two or three wires and sometimes a ground wire. If the direct connection to the battery is good, the ignition light wire intact and working and if needed a battery sensing wire (though this wire isn't often needed in the last couple of decades) the alternator, if it is any good, will charge the battery at the regulated voltage of about 14.5.
If you are sure the alternator is a good one and it isn't charging the connecting wires must be at fault and need to be checked.

There is one other possibility and that applies only in the case of smart charging systems. If your car has a smart charging system the alternator will have several extra wires, usually plugged into the side of the machine.
The alternator works in a similar way to the standard unit except instruction from a separate control unit is capable of reducing or suspending charging. The smart charge black box talks with the engine management black box and charging is suspended during acceleration to cut fuel consumption or improve acceleration. A fault in the smart charge system can prevent the alternator charging.

Disconnecting the additional wiring will allow the alternator to perform its normal function without interruption. The ignition, charge or battery light is controlled by the black box and can do strange things that mean nothing when the smart charge is disconnected.

With everything connected and the engine running, you should see a charging voltage of about 13.5 ~ 15 VDC on the battery terminals. Engine off and and lights / or some other load on the battery should show around 12.5 VDC.

If the 14 ~ 15 VDC charge voltage is present when running, and the battery fails to start the engine; it could indicate a poor connection at the battery posts, dead or failing cell(s) or failing starter.

it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

Have the system checked for more than .2 Amps draw in which case there is a short somewhere.

Also, check that the alternator is charging the battery by putting it on a starting/charging machine at Sears or Walmart or the parts store in your area (e.g. Autozone or Advance Auto Parts).
