A bad thermostat stops coolant from moving into the top hose.it wont get very hot. Normal operating temperature for your truck is 190% F
The coolant filler cap should hold pressure at 16 PSI When a cap is failing it will boil over when the engine is turned off. If the gauge is reading normal and you are not loosing coolant. The top hose will still be very hot to the touch.

Need help.. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton truck.. heater will not get hot.. changed the thermostat..had the radiator flushed.. checked heater coil (sp).. checked the air conditioner flapper door to see...

1 check,Feel the heater hoses,do they get hot ,both or one? They should be hot,if not flush the heater core directly with a hose, back and forth at each hose connection.
2nd check, clamp off the top rad hose and force the hot water through the heater and check heat output. If there is heat with top rad hose clamped change the thermostat,it's either leaking or defective, new or not.

97 jeep gc only one heater hose is hot ? i get no heat

Yes. Is there a heat valve in the heater hose may not be opening. Next no heat valve disconnect both heater hoses crank engine and see where the water squirts out of engine thats where the inlet side of the heater Hook the garden hose to the other side and blow it out probably full of rust change antifreeze more often

I have a 1999 chevy malibu , front wheel drive with a 2.4 litre twin cam engine . the car overheats and water pours out of overflow hose. what is the cause of this?

well, a lot potentially COULD be wrong. here is my list of what to check.

hoses for deterioration and sponginess, its unlikely but possible your hoses are collapsing due to poor condition and not letting water flow through it

check thermostat for proper operation ( remove thermostat, compress spring to open it insert string then suspend it in a pan of boiling water. it will fall off the spring at the aprox. temp its set at. if it is stuck closed then its your culprit)

check water pump ( hard to diagnose, some cars have a weep hole at the bottom of the water pump that drips water while running at any temp. )

check antifreeze dilution and condition, water cools better that anti-freeze 50-50 is recommended but in hotter climates 25-75 is more appropriate. also the dirtier it is the worse it cools

ensure your engine fan is operating by running the car and observing it with the hood open. at a specified temp ( 200-230 F neighborhood) it should turn on. If it doesn't then check your fuses and wiring and repair/replace as needed

finally check for a clogged radiator/ flush it. If the car was bought used or you know for a fact the radiator stop-leak pellets were used in it. you will most likely have to replace the radiator

other factors are engine timing (shouldn't be an issue for your year of car)

I hope this helps a bit

Where is heater control valve on 2003 dodge ram pick up

THERE IS NO HEATER CONTROL VALVE ON THE WATER HOSES. NEW HEATER CORE. INLET LINE right before heater core hot, outlet after core look warm. Burped cooling system 5 times with engine at operating temp. Installed homade burp VALVE right after heater core outlet(high part of hose). Still no heat. Removed water pump, impeller still in good shape not stripped off shaft. Removed heater core hoses flushed water thrue the connections on the block to the water pump INLET and outlet. flushed water thrue heater core and hoses. Going to put it back togeter today. Used known good gauge to check water temp for operating temp in test. 195 f

2002 dodge 1500 Changed radiator, thermostat, and hoses. No heat

Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.

Radiator cool, engine temp = 140

sounds like your radiator is clogged, it will bring problems to you soon, you need to flush it really good, i dont think you need to replace it but it sounds like a typical clogged radiator, have it flushed, it you cant ur gonna need to replace it soon, if you keep running that car it might lead you to a temp problem while runing and u might end up hurting your engine...
u also need to check if your thermostat is working properly. go on google and look for the procedure, ur gonna have to take it off and do a test with hot water and a thermometer and see if its working properly.
hope this helps.
have fun!

97 dodge ram running hot

What temp rating is the thermostat you bought ? there are 3 I believe for your truck, check this and if it is rated below 200 degrees then I would re-flush and add new anti-freeze 50/50.
