Back head rest removal:
Use the push button on the right hand stem at the same time if you look at the left hand stem at the same place you will see a hidden button and you can press this with your finger nail. When you have worked this out press both and pull the h/rest out at the same time.
Front H/Rest removal:
First open the seat back at the bottom and lift up. Inside you will see a bowden cable (like a bike brake cable). Disconnect this cable.
Lift the H/Rest up to it`s full hight. At the seat top and at the point that the H/Rest stem goes into the seat twist the black plastic caps and lift up. -Sit at the back of the seat and poke the foam away from the front at about 11 o`clock when you look down you should see a small round silver metal ring. This is the end of a fancy clip that is used to lock the stem into place. You will need to poke a small screwdriver into this ring and move it about 2mm to the left. This has to be done on both stems at the same time and again lift the H/Rest up to get out. Best to get help with this as you will need a light to shine down to see the clip`s, pull the h/rest up and move both clips at the same time.Do not move or bend the clips more than a few mm or its knackerd. Lift the plastic caps and have a look before you start
The clip is a strait wire on this side that locks into a cut in the H/Rest stem when you pull the H/Rest up and if you bend it or force it to far you will have a problem fitting it back. How do I adjust the front headrest on my 2009 Lincoln MKS so that they do not tilt so far forward?

I turned my headrests backward. Worked great. In fact, I wonder if the engineers designed them that way but the production guys build them backward???
1) Tilt the seat way back to allow room to remove headrests, 2) Press and hold both headrest release tabs at the same time and have someone else pull out the headrest completely, 3) turn the headrests backward and insert into the two headrest guide slots (headrests fit the same either way). 4) No more pain in the neck !!!
Caution: I do not know what this does for whiplash injury protection but it seems OK for my own comfort with the solution. And it beats the pain in the neck caused by the bass-akwards design.

How do I remove the front seat headrest on a '94 Volvo 940?

two answers,depending on seat.
1.push in 1/2 moon shape piece at bottom of post and lift,it is stiff...
2.about 6 inches down from the post on the back of the seat you will feel a small 1" pad, push it in hard and lift headrest,it will be stiff.
better if someone sits in back and tries to move headrest at first cos you will only have one hand free
and from experience a face full of headrest can hurt.

I want to put fitted seat covers on my 09 HHR but contrary to the owners manual, the headrests in the front do not pull out What am I missing?

There is a little release that you need to trip. If I recall correctly, it may just be a little **** in the plastic where the headrest posts go into the seat. A small, flat screwdriver should be able to hold it in while you pull up on the headrest.

Want a RAV4 but the headrests are terrible!

I moved one of the headrests from the back to the driver's seat. Had to open the legs a little bit but it fit.
Something else I found is that if one adjusts the seat so that it cradles one's body, thus maximizing contact between the body and the seat, and then puts the headrest back on it does not pushes one's head forward. Seems they designed it to be driven as if one was sitting on a recliner.
Although one can drive comfortably in that position, the headrest is massive and blocks the view over one's right shoulder.

How do you remove the front headrest for a 2009 bmw 335i

You can't remove the front headrests from 2009 or later BMW's without first disconnecting internal wiring that runs inside 1 of the posts for each headrest to the inside the seat. This wiring is part of the Active Restraint Safety System that was new for 2009.

If you force it and break the wire you will at a minimum need to spend about $300 at the dealer to resplice the wire by taking the back off the seat.

Front Headrests

There is a plastic cover, about 1 1/8" diameter, on the base of the post on each side. You can remove it with a screw driver by carefully prising upwards at the edge. They just clip down.
Once these are lifted away from the seat, you will see the wire clip that locks the headrest into the seat. Remove the clip on each post, and you can then remove the headrest.
Reassembly is the reverse.
