Could be a fatal valve timing issue. The cylinders begin to smash into valves, it may be badly worn cam or timing belt. Get it to a mechanic quick.

I went to a mechanic he said it could be I need new spark plugs or because my jeep is clogged

  • gmduvall Dec 13, 2014

didn't your mechanic do anything ? like change the plugs ? popping or "pinking" is usually associated with bad timing issues. I would of expected your guy to at least point a timing strobe at your engine.

Well the problem was that I had a bad crank sensor so we replaced it with a new because the jeep was giving us the code P1391 with is the crank sensor. So now it the jeep drives fine when it's cold but once it's warm it starts to turn off.

    Why is that?

  • gmduvall Dec 13, 2014

have you replaced the camshaft sensor ? they can fail when hot and work for a while when cooler. I've checked a few sites for this and its quite a common problem. crank position and camshaft sensors govern the spark, so faulty ones give bad spark calls when they get hot.

the fuel pump can fail when it gets hot. seems a lot of parts for this car fail when they get hot ! then when pump is cool it starts again. check for any shorts on any external electrical components like wiper motors ...

SOURCE: 2004 jeep grand cherokee limited makes a noise

Sounds like a loose belt, Depending on what engine etc., it may need to be changed or if you have adjustment, tightened. When adjustment or replacement done, is a good time to check all pulleys. If your not up to it, an adjustment should not cost too much, few minutes work in most cases, if belt needs changing, price of belt & a little more labor involved.

SOURCE: Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited P0700 diagnostic problem

P0700 means there is a transmission fault code in the transmission controller. Since the transmission controller doesn't have a light attached, it tells the engine controller to turn the light on using this code. You'll have to access the transmission controller to further diagnose the problem.

SOURCE: Very rough idle on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition V8

If you haven't changed the plugs or had the fuel system cleaned, now would be a good time to do it. The number 1 culprit for rough idles is dirty injectors or plugs. You can try an injector cleaner in a can (or bottle) for under $10 and see if it helps, and then work from there. If there isn't any improvement then if you are able to, check the plugs for any gunky buildup and if you find a bad plug, make sure you replace them all (or have them replaced) at the same time.

How do i replace/install a heater core for a 1999 limited edition jeep cherokee 4.0 liter 6cyclinder

I would make sure the core is the problem. You may have a heater control valve that cuts off flow to the core by vac. or a blend door that cuts off air flow thru the core.
You will need a shop manual to replace the core. The dash and console have to come out, along with discharging the ac.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited makes rear noise when turning left?

Could be low on oil, or need a shot of additive if it is a limited slip differential.
The noise may be the clutches in the diff or one of the axle bearings.

What type of oil do i use in my 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited edition and my brakes sound like air is comming out of the foot pedal when ever i use them...what is messed up so i know what to fix...ty...

Hello Melani,
your jeep calls for either 5w30 or 10w30 oil If you are in colder climates run 5w30 if down south in warmer weather run the 10w30. The air noise you are referring too sounds like you have a power brake booster starting to fail. These are vacuum operated off of the engines vacuum and when you start hearing a sucking sound when pushing on pedal, this indicates the booster is leaking need to have that checked and repaired very soon. Thanks for choosing fixya Melanie and have a great Day

I have a 1999 jeep cherokee limited when I am driving there is a humming/growling sound that comes from the front drivers side. It seems that it is almost draging the vehicle? Would this problem be a wheel...

cv joints don't always click, mainly they click when turning, But worn ones will also make noise,, since you have to remove the wheel anyway ,, I'd check the bearing first, then move onto the cv joints

Air/con. fan work of and on

On the back of the all switches of controls are little plastic colored vaccum line that control all the components. You will have to go on your back and look up inside to see them. I'm sure one of them has popped off.
