It could be to much air, not enough fuel. Or to much fuel, not enough air. Most likely the first, unless you notice a lot of black smoke when accelerating. Check engine light on? Also could be the catalytic converter/s. Have the codes read. repost.

It the ignition coil inside the distributor. I have the same problem with my 2000 Nissan Quest. After I replace the distributor, my car runs great now.

Replaced plugs , wires, distributer cap, rotor, no. 3 cyl. not hitting all the time

The problem could be related to the fuel injector instead of the ignition system.

I changed my dist. cap & rotor wireleads and plugs. The truck still wont start what am i missing?

What the mechanic said does not make sence, the first thing you need to do is start from basics. Check the spindle on the distributer moves as you turn the engine over. If it does replace the top and connect the lead to a plug you have removed, then earth it on the motor. (DO NOT HOLD IT OR THE CABLE) . Turn over the engine again, it should spark ( the plug). Then check the timing from scratch. If you want to know in detail how to check the timing, post again.

I changed my distributer cap and rotor, On my 1990 Cherokee 4.0 inline 6 ,I replaced plugs followed 153624 and now it wont start ?? i matched # 1 on the block to #1 on the distributer cap etc .. turns...

if that distributor has ever been out, it may not line up on #1. check to make sure the coil wire is connected tight on both the coil and the cap.

Car wont start, not getting spark

crankshaft sensor, or computer on toyotas then it was usually the distributor or the computer, but the crankshaft sensor might be bad too thats what helps to get you spark.

Just replaced engine in my 97 its a vortec brought it to tdc put in distributar it turns over and tries to start but wont i turn it just a little it acts better but i cant move it far enough

take the spark plug out of the #1 cylinder and turn the engine by hand until the piston is at the top dead center of its stroke (put a screw driver in the hole and you should be able to tell when its all the way up). now pull the cap off the distributer the rotor should be pointing at the #1 cylinder wire. if not then the distributer is in the wrong possition. remove the distributer and point the rotor in the correct possition(#1 cylinder) and place the distributer back in.also if this is a used engine replace the cap, rotor plugs and wires.the truck should start. Hope this helps you out.

Replaced engine. car turns but wont start. power

have you checked that the points in the distributer are set ok and havent closed or burnt,as this is what makes the coil spark the ht lead to the distributer cap to the rotor arm then to the plug leads.
hope this helps

Hi kellymcmeen

I think that you may have missed replacing the weather gasket....fits between the cap and the distributer body.
