Question about Cars & Trucks
Automatic lock up when driving can reset it by switching off and starting again.
I suspect you have almost ruined the transmission. Have you been driving very hard or overloaded? Have the fluid and filter changed. IF you notice a lot of metal fines in the filter, you are in need of a transmission rebuild.

Testimonial: "This is only occasional and not all the time. The car has been serviced regularly by BMW Dealership before I got it and since that time it has only covered 10000 miles so I assume that the oil and filter have been changed. There is no way of checking to see if there is any metal swarf in the oil as there is no dipstick. The car has only covered 55000 miles but I have been putting some oil and fuel additive which seemed to have solved it for a period of time."
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
