Yes the 4 wire plug has power going to transmission to operate the TCC solenoid and grounding switch to relay what gear the trans is in . now later trans have a plug on passenger side that carries more wires for electronic controls of line pressure and shift solenoids.

I have an 1993 short wide that i ordered a tranny from B&M, a 700r4. They tranny wires from my truck have a round plug , and the new 700r4 has a square plug. Is there an adaptor for this

your first problem is that you ordered the wrong transmission. in the late 80's chevy switched from the 700r4 to the 4L60E. all the electronics for the 4L60E was changed. the only way you can run the 700R4 is if you put a completely different ECU (computer) in the truck. I recomend you see if you can trade the transmission in for the correct one or you will be going through alot of headaches trying to get another computer and complete wiring harness for the truck.

Is a 1987 700R4 trans electronic and need a computer to work what is electronic lock up?

The 700R4 requires no computer. That's what the TV Cable is- Activates the OverDrive without needing a computer. I don't think a 700R4 has a lockup. At least, None of the trucks I have driven have had one.

I am wondering which transmissions will fit a 1997 GMC 2500. The truck currently has a 4l80E trans that is bad. Will a 700R4 fit?

Unless you want to do a lot of work i would find another 4l80E or rebuild yours. 700r4 is not electronic shift and you have no connection for the shift cable. And if you get a electronic 700r4 (4L60E) The plugs are completely different and you would need to change the whole engine harness and ecm.

Does a 93 trans am use a 700r4 transmission or 4l60e transmission

Actually that's not correct. For 1993, they used a 4L60 (not the 4L60E). In reality, it was a 700R4 just renamed to 4L60. They were not electronically controlled in 1993. It was just a one year deal with those. Switched to the 4L60E in 1994.

What transmission is in a 1990 corvette?I think it is a 700r4?and if yes will any 700r4 fit ?

No there are different 700R4 transmission, well that not quite true. The 700R4 had many jobs to matted to Corvettes to SUVs, the internals are where the differences were in the 700R4 such as the servo's and boost valve which can be easily replaced. Best thing to do is to got to a Transmission shop that can build a transmissions for your Corvette or buy a replacement 700R4 for your year of Corvette. That is why the shift points and firmness are different in a Corvette then a Cadillac while they both have 700R4 in the 1990's. Be bad for a Corvette to shift like Grandma's Cadillac going to play dingo. Good luck and hope this helps.

Will a 700r4 fit into a 87 el camino without having to cut the drive line? I currently have 305 v8 with a hydromatic 200 in it.

It depends on what the 700r4 came out of. Different vehicles had different length tail shafts. The best thing to do is to measure the length of the two transmissions. You should be able to get a driveshaft shortened for around $150 if you need to do it. Also don't forget to get the vacuum-electric switch and harness for the trans, on the firewall by the heater box.
This will really make a difference in your mileage so give it some serious thought. I replaced a Turbo350 with one and my weekly gas bill went from $100 to about $65-$70. Hope this helps.

A buddy brought me his headache. Its a 1994 GMC jimmy with the 4.3 vortec 4X4 that had a 4L60E he swapped out the 4L60E for a 700R4 from an earlier chevy.the tranny modual plugs are totally different. How do...

The 700R4 is controlled by vacuum lines and throttle cable kick down linkage (TV) and need to be re calibrated to the engine as to being 4.3 or 5.0 to 5.7. Best thing to do is to get a transmission shop that knows how to custom install transmission like a speed shop. The TV cable adjustment on the 700R4 needs to be perfect. TV cable is used to set part throttle shift points, line pressure and if not set right will burn up the clutch plates due to low line pressure. Good luck and hope this helps. you going to need tools that most of us don't have, like to be able to measure and adjust the line pressure at different RPM. If you need more information, keep me posted and be glad to help.

1994 Chevy parts and Transmission

Hello;
So your current transmission is a 4L60E. t is a very strong automatic. You can also convert to a 5 speed or utilize the 700R4 automatic that is non electronic. Hope this helps narrow your search. Please rate me highly.

Replacing a 4L60E with a 700R4?

Not with good results, the 4L60E is run by your ecm, the 700R4 while looking close to the same does not relie on your ecm for commands,it relies on a cable to regulate your line pressure.
