I have a TH700R4 transmission in a 1987 K-5 Blazer, it first started not wanting to shift from 1st into 2nd. I changed the transmission filter and fluid and now it want even change out of 1st

You dropped the pan to change the filter? Was there a lot of gunk in the pan? If it has over 100,000 miles on it, it is time for a rebuild.

Change of fluid and filter helps. The condition of the old oil will tell you weather there might be more damage. Debris on the oil may also be found in the transmission solenoid which controls the fluid which engages the gears. Your solenoid may be dirty or damaged. It is also possible that the valves for the 3rd gear is dirty that is why you are staying on the 2nd gear. These two components needs to be inspected further by opening the transmission.

I know this may sound stupid...but can't find the transmission filter. Was driving car and kept losing gears (automatic). Got it home, fluid seems fine. Could it just be a plugged filter?

Sure but the filter is inside the transmission. ussally the pan on the bottom of the transmission needs to be removed and and filter is connected to the transmission inside this cover on the lowest point. If your not a regular mechanic ( work on cars for a living, day in and out) you should hire this work done by someone who does.

Tranmission in city driving tends to stay in 2nd gear after stopping ,what eletronic could this be, pull over turn it off and its restart and its fine

shifting solenoid inside the transmission, above the pan on the interior, you'd have to remove the shifting assembly (sounds worse than it is as long as you are mechanically inclined, have proper drain pans, newspapers, plenty of rags and a good jack with stands.,.)
It might not be that, check the fluid quality and level first.
Best regards,
Ck

I have a 1993 Tracker and the auto. transmission when it goes into 3rd gear slips for a while. When the tranie warms up it's O K. So when it slips I pull it back into 2nd until it warms up enough. What do...

Check trans fluid with engine running - if low, top off. If fluid level is fine then try changing the transmission filter located inside the transmission pan. You may also have an issue with dirty trans fluid - if it is not pinkish but brown then have a transmission power flush done, then change filter.

Transmission fluid

You need to take the pan off of the bottom of the transmission, ther is no drain so leave a few bolt in the front snug and pry the rear loose[have a big pan under it and stay out of the way].slowly loosen the front when the fluid stops running and finish draining it then remove the pan.you will see the filter once the pan is off.

Changing transmition filter

The transmission filter is located inside the transmission pan. Should take you around an hour or so to drain and drop pan replace filter and replace pan. Thanks for using FixYa!
