Hi there. I can solve this dangerous problem you are having. You would loose acceleration at lights and intersections, the engine will shake and revs can go crazy. The issue is the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. It was recalled in 2001 as a safety problem as people died driving this model of sonata. If you connect your comp up to a diagnostic machine you will find its the MAF the problem is a problem that is hard to ctah on a diagnostic machine though as it comes and goes. You will need to replace the MAF ASAP as you can die from this fault and hyundai will not care due to the age of this car.

A misfire doesn't always have to be ignition... it's just the most common cause. Faulty or plugged injector, low compression. You need to check fuel pressure and test the fuel injector flow. Then check compression. If you don't have tools for these tests, take it to someone who does. Testing is much cheaper than throwing parts at the problem.

Crank positions sensor might be broke due to collision. Sensor is on the front of the engine at the crank cover. It is what tells the coil pack as to what cylinder to fire in, since the newer engines start on any cylinder instead of only No. 1.

Random misfire on 2004 chevy tahoe z71

Use some electrical spray cleaner or tuner cleaner and give mass air flow sensor a good cleaning. then try it. If that doesn't help, a fuel system pressure test may be smart to confirm proper pressure required is there. Low fuel pressure will cause multiple random misfire as well.

Chevy vortec 305 misfire on # 6 cylinder

Could be 1 of 3 things sparkplug fouled, sparkplug wire or a faulty injector or injector wire connector has a poor connection. Also if this engine has 1 coil per cylinder then the coil for that cylinder could be faulty.

Cylinder 4. Each cylinder has it's own coil above the sparkplug.
If you have a misfire, it's probably a bad coil. But if it's an intermittent misfire, it may be the wiring to the coil. If it's intermittent, start the car and wiggle the wires to that coil. If you cause a misfire you need to check the wiring to the coil.
Goode luck.

My 2002 ford escape says cylinder 2 and 4 are misfiring. The check engine light keeps coming on and it shakes and shudders at low rpm.

Hello, You may have already had the motor scanned if you know which cylinders are misfiring. If you need a scan, go to Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys for a FREE scan to diagnose your problem.

The shaking and shudder are normal when you are losing half to a third of your cylinders. If you are confident of the cylinders that are to blame, you need to investigate why they are misfiring. The sparkplugs can be bad by now, but were probably good before the spark to them was interrupted.

Your vehicle has a coil on plug system. There are reports of problems on the NHTSA site but no Recalls were issued. You need to change the 2 coils and plugs for those cylinders. The problem will make other components like your PCM fail if it has not already been damaged.

The electrical system in the PCM gets damaged if the spark does not flow to the sparkplugs. The built up power can charge the chassis and knock out delicate small electronics so do not delay in fixing this.

Also the reports I have seen do not show any advantage to replacing all of your coils instead of the damaged 2. If the shuddering continues after the coil/plug change, you probably need the PCM. I know this is not good news but hope my solution is very helpful.

1996 isuzu rodeo keeps reading #2 misfire runs good xcept when cold it hesitates most times or jus occasionally hesitates then the check engine light flashes and its guzzling gas i only got 50 miles on a...

A misfire alarm typically means the coil pack mounted above the sparkplug indicated in the misfire had gone defective.

To test it, swap the coil pack with another cylinder, and see if the misfire goes from #2 to the cylinder you put it on.

If the misfire continues to be on #2, then consider changing the sparkplugs.

I hope this helps.

Okay, this sounds like its misfiring, the engine light is on because the computer sees a problem, if you have the computer scanned it will tell you where the problem is, for example it will give a code and say cylinder 2 misfire.autozone will scan for free, if its a misfire i would start with a tune up , spark plugs ,sparkplug wires and air and fuel as needed, then see how it drives from there, the light can be cleared at autozone also, if it still picks up a misfire then depending on the cylinder you may have a bad coil pack also, there are three packs one controls two cylinders so depending on the cyliner misfiring thats the coil to replace, they should be labeled but if not just follow the wire to coil from cylinder, they are as follows, rear cylinders from left to right are cylinders 135 the front 246, hope this helps.
