My c2 1.4 petrol engine mngment light comes on , with faulty ant polution . i have changed all faults that register on diagnostics tests , but this one keep on returning

Test the oxygen sensors with a multimeter ,check for a 12v supply with teh plug disconnected then test for continuety across the wires the same colour ,normally white ,then reconnect the plug and with engine running and two pins in the other wire test for voltage as engine is running ,the voltage should vary as the engine is revved up

I have Peugeot 207 gt cc, the depollution system fault sign keeps bleeping up and engine management light has come up! Cam sensors are fine, plugs are fine! Car is 58plate petrol!


You need to have a OBD2 fault code test performed to determine what codes are present in memory, based on that test you do the prescribed diagnostics testing.

I have just bought a Ford Focus c max 1.8 zetec and 30 miles down the road my engine management came on and also my petrol light (34miles) yet there is a quarter of a tank in it just hasn't registered


As to the light you must have a fault code test run to see what turned on the light, it could be related to the inop fuel gage, And that is the fuel tank sending unit causing that. Do the fault code first.

The light is not due to any clogged filter issue, you have an engine fault in one of the sensors most likely.

2006 dodge grand caravan check engine light comes on,and the words gas cap comes on the dash as well. I got the oil preasure looked at and it was ok had the gas cap presuer checked and passed so what else...


Hi,

Part of your vehicle's OBD diagnostic monitoring includes petrol vapour leaks (called the EVAP). So when this message appears, the system has detected a petrol vapour leak somewhere.

At this point, it would be wise to have your fault codes read on your vehicle's OBD computer as it may pinpoint a faulty sensor.

If the sensors prove ok, the most obvious place to look first is the seals on the Gas Cap. Then, everywhere within the petrol pipe line down to the petrol tank, then up to the engine bay.

If you have trouble correcting this problem, some garages have a means of injecting smoke into the EVAP system, to locate leakage points.

Idle is running really fast and check engine light comes on. Things go off and on when car is turned off like fan, window washers, radio, if there are left on when car is turned off. fuel light goes off...


If there is a check engine light, then the codes should be pulled off of it.

Listings of the trouble codes for the various engine control systems covered in this manual are located in this section. Remember that a code only points to the faulty circuit NOT necessarily to a faulty component. Loose, damaged or corroded connections may contribute to a fault code on a circuit when the sensor or component is operating properly. Be sure that the components are faulty before replacing them, especially the expensive ones. The Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL) connector or Data Link Connector (DLC) may be located under the dash and sometimes covered with a plastic cover labeled DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR.
  1. On all 1990-95 models the diagnostic trouble codes can be read by grounding test terminal B. The terminal is most easily grounded by connecting it to terminal A (internal ECM ground). This is the terminal to the right of terminal B on the top row of the ALDL connector.
  2. Once the terminals have been connected, the ignition switch must be moved to the ON position with the engine not running.
  3. The Service Engine Soon or Check Engine light should be flashing. If it isn't, turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire. Turn the ignition ON and confirm that light is now on. If it is not, replace the bulb and try again. If the bulb still will not light, or if it does not flash with the test terminal grounded, the system should be diagnosed by an experienced driveability technician. If the light is OK, proceed as follows.
  4. The code(s) stored in memory may be read through counting the flashes of the dashboard warning lamp. The dash warning lamp should begin to flash Code 12. The code will display as one flash, a pause and two flashes. Code 12 is not a fault code. It is used as a system acknowledgment or handshake code; its presence indicates that the PCM can communicate as requested. Code 12 is used to begin every diagnostic sequence. Some vehicles also use Code 12 after all diagnostic codes have been sent.
  5. After Code 12 has been transmitted 3 times, the fault codes, if any, will each be transmitted 3 times. The codes are stored and transmitted in numeric order from lowest to highest. NOTE: The order of codes in the memory does not indicate the order of occurrence.
  6. If there are no codes stored, but a driveability or emissions problem is evident, the system should be diagnosed by an experienced driveability technician.
  7. If one or more codes are stored, record them. Refer to the applicable Diagnostic Code chart in this section.
  8. Switch the ignition OFF when finished with code retrieval or scan tool readings. NOTE: After making repairs, clear the trouble codes and operate the vehicle to see if it will reset, indicating further problems.

Malfunction indicator lamp is on


i had same problem .. the echo depends on a good seal for the gas cap .. it draws a slight vacuum (or maybe pressure) to test the seal .. if it cant develop the vacuum then it sets the alarm light .... in my case a small crack in the rubber seal of the gas cap caused the problem .. a new gas cap resolved it .. it takes a while to clear the code .. maybe a few starts .. its also a good idea to clean up the mouth of the gas filler tube ..if its rusty or dirty then you cant get a good seal .. wd40 does a nice job of cleaning .. the new gas cap was only a few dollars at advanced auto but lacks the teather strap

the diagnostic scan at autozone does not narrow it down .. it just indicates something like "faulty polution control device" .. or maybe it was an even more generic term .. cant remember ..but not much help ..

in other cars (caravan) the oxygen sensor frequently seems to be the cause of the alarm.. .. the scanner does flag that ..

Check Engine Light On


Check Engine Lights come on due to an electrical component failure or if a sensor is registering something outside the vehicles set working parameters on your vehicle. The diagnostic machine would not tell the mechanic that a radiator hose is leaking; However, if the coolant level is low within the cooling system (due to a leak), your temperature sending unit may register a fault through your vehicle's computer... setting off the check engine light.

If the car has been driving normally, you haven't noticed any leaks within your cooling system, and your temp gauge is not registering hotter than normal, then this probably isn't the case.

Have a different mechanic perform a diagnostics test to see what fault codes are stored in your car's computer. Also, to double check for leaks within your cooling system, have them perform a pressure test on your radiator. This will uncover any leaks, if any.

If you haven't noticed any of the above symptoms or driveability issues, your car will be fine to drive for awhile... just don't put it off too long to have it tested.
