Barrel? the key tumbler , in he the igniton switch ? or the switch.?
no year, no class sizes or ton rating. wow., 1959 to now.
we don't have them here.
but on most cars this it it,
Generic:

  1. disconnect battery minus lug (defeat air bags , per FSM ways)
  2. off the plastics around IGN switch.
  3. some cars you most lower steering column a bit.
  4. remove the ignition switch assemble , anti-theft bolts (trash them)
  5. some cars need steering wheel off.
  6. remove switch from column, (plugs and what not)
  7. with a drift pin (lock smith type) drive the locking pin out of barrel.
  8. insert the key and remove the tumbler.
  9. or hand it to any locksmith and let him do it.
  10. The FSM may have a more simple way, so buy one at toyota.

to remove you ignition barrel is a simple process you need to remover the steering column covers from around the ignition switch.
there is a small hole located in the ignition barrel you will need to gentle push and hold an Allen key in the hole and rotate the key to the accessories the barrel should be come lose and gentle be pulled out.
please note that if the internal locking mech is not correctly depressed you will not be able to remove the barrel.
also if you have lost you key you will not be ale to remove the ignition barrel and will need to get a lock smith to rplace the whole thing witch can cost from $120 up to $250 depending on the locksmith

KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION

just a guess on this one , some ignition barrels have a button underneath the key barrel , and to remove key you must push this in and turn key back one more klick away from start direction .

i am hoping that original key is in ignition , you can get ignition barrel replaced with new keys , but some steerng parts need dissasembling .
and some are pains to remove .
hope it was this simple !

How to remove ignition barrel from 1997 toyota celica

Remove the plastic covers around the ignition switch, insert the key in the ignition and turn the key to ignition on position (just before start position) now locate the pin on the side of the ignition switch which is flush with the aluminium housing holding the barrel, the pin is about 3 mm in diameter.Gently press the pin inwards (which is spring loaded) with a sharp pointed object e.g small screwdriver and at the same time while holding the pin, pull on the ignition key as if you want to remove the key, and the barrel will slide out completely.

Phillip

I HAVE A MERCEDEZ 190 AND THE KEYS ARE NOT TURNING IN IGNITION BARREL NOW THE STEERING IS LOCKED ALSO I HAVE TAKEN OUT IGNITION BARREL WITH STEERING COLOUM. i WOULD LIKE TO DISINGAGE THE IGNITION BARREL...

it is better to buy a new ignition barrel.it takes a special socket to get the screws out, once the screws are out they do not need to be replaced.buy new barrel, disconnect negative battery cable, disconnect wires from barrel assembly, remove barrel from colum. first take vin# to dealership parts department to get correct barrel assembly, the keys with new assembly will fit doors and trunk

Key's snapped off inside ignition

Hi I would suggest you ring the Automobile association, and see whether one of their mobile mechanics can solve your problem. extracting a car key from the barrel may be more difficult than it appears. He, the mobile man may have done it before and have the right tools for the problem.
