Sounds like there is wear elsewhere causing the drop in oil pressure. I thicker oil will raise the pressure but could also further damage the engine.

What causes oil pressure to drop when sitting at red light

Three things, low on oil, low on pressure, bad sending unit. First one is easy, do you have enough oil in engine. Second, is the oil pump functioning properly. Third, is the pressure sending unit working properly. I recommend changing oil first if still occurs, replace sending unit, then if it still happens, i would have the pressure tested with a mechanical gauge. If pressure ok then drop oil pan and check screen. Screen clear replace pump unless there is alot of metal in pan then rebuild motor

HOW TO CHANGE A OIL PUMP ON A BMW 316I M43 1995 MODEL

Low oil pressure? It's not your pump. It the crankshaft bearings. I have never replaced an oil pump for low pressure. Always the bearings. I have replaced them because I did the rebuild or someone just wanted a high pressure pump. Don't waste your time on just a pump, only to have the same results. If you really like the car and it is worth it to you. Build the engine...It is 30 years old.

I replaced the oil pump and rod and main bearings and i still have somewhat low oil pressure

How do you know that you have Low Oil Pressure?

Are you trusting the Gauge or putting an In-Line Gauge?

YOUR GM GAUGE CLUSTER is known to have BAD or DEFECTIVE STEPPER MOTORS...

If you put the In-line Gauge on and see that you have Good Pressure, then what you need to do is rebuild your Instrument Cluster.

MAKE SURE YOU USE X27.168 Stepper Motors... The Cheaper CHINEESE STEPPER MOTORS are black and are defective.

The X27.168 Stepper Motors are WHITE and will last for as long as you own the Truck.

Order 6 Stepper Motors and do them ALL at the same time or you can pay someone $95-$200 to rebuild it for you...

1995 Ford Econoline 150 with 302 engine. Oil pressure indicator starting dropping when idle speed went down, Had a new oil pump and sending unit replaced, still does the same thing. Has 190K on it, now as...

When you had the pump replaced did anyone look at the rod and main bearings? 99% of all low oil pressure problems I've seen has been directly related to bearing wear, not a bad oil pump.
Replacing the pump will give you slightly better pressure temporarily but that won't last very long.
Verify the actual oil pressure using an external mechanical gauge. If it's low (likely it is) go back into the oil pan and use plasti-gage on the bearings to measure clearances.
In reality though, in an engine with that many miles, it's best to either completely rebuild or replace it though.

Hi, I drive a Toyota Runx. A few days ago the OIL PRESSURE WARNING dashboard light went off. I didn't understand it, so i drove on. The next day the car stalled. Now the flywheel in the cylinder head is...

There is no way of knowing what all has been damaged by the low oil pressure without taking the motor apart. you might get away with replacing the heads and flywheel but something else will pop up later and cost you more trouble. You will also have to replace the oil pump since the pressure dropped, umnless you just ran out of oil and the pump wan't hurt. My advice on this is to talk to an engine rebuilder and get an estimate on rebuilding your current engine, that way he can save any parts that were not damaged and will only have to replace the bad parts. Check to see what the difference in price is whether you replace the motor with a new one vs a low milage used one against the cost of rebuilding yours. Some cases it eisier to replace the motor instead of rebuilding. I suspect that you have much more damage than you think. Loosing oil pressure is a death sentence for engines!

Check oil light is on and the car is making noises , I just got a oil change one month ago.

May be the incorrect oil , low on oil you may have an oil pressure problem. Have the vehicle diagnosed by a
certified repair shop. Its a 16 yr old car have, the techn do an oil pressure check, check out sending unit and its circuitry . Worse case new engine or partial engine rebuild( pump, cam and crank bearings).
Best case ,low on oil .

1995 gmc jimmy... heavy clunking and low kpa oil pressure

Your oil pump is bad or you have a restriction in the oil system. The noises are you bearings in the engine starving for oil. If you drive this vehicle before repair you will need a new engine or rebuild that one. I don't know how much damage is done and the bottom end may already be beyond a simple repair. Worst case you will need to have the engine rebuilt.
Have a great day any questions please let me know

Low oil pressure

Hi, you will need to inspect the oil pump screen. it is clogged. normally when the light illuminates at low idle, its because of a clogged oil pump screen. Here is a little description about this device.

Also known as an oil pickup tube, this strainer assembly in the inlet side of oil pump circuit screens out larger impurities and debris before they enter the pump. A finely woven mesh screen is on the sump end of the assembly, and the opposite end of the assembly either presses into or bolts to the oil pump.

  • The oil pump sump screen, or pickup, must be checked to be sure it is clean.
  • A new oil pump does not come with a new screen.
  • Some rebuilders replace every screen with a new one.
  • A plugged screen can ruin a new engine in a very short time.
To access most oil pump screens, the Engine Oil Pan must be removed.

Please rate and god bless:)
