It sounds like there might be moisture in your gas. You might stop at the parts store and get a gas additive to dry it out.

I have a Kia Rio 2005 Cinco( 5 door) Running really rough until I push down gas pedal,,, Then it seems lOk still a little r bogged down', It doesn't stall just runs rough without accelerration? Oxyg

To begin with, is your "check engine (CE)" light on? If it was on and now its not, you need to replace the bulb. If CE lights is on, find out the codes before doing anything. If bulb is good and "CE" does not come on, begin with: (1) gapping spark plugs, (2) replace spark plug wires (if haven't changed them within the last 2), then the coil. If your Cinco is still idles rough, adjust gas pedal until idling smoothly. If this still doesn't help, replace your two oxygen sensors. If still running rough, the converter. After doing all this and problem is still present, take it to a mechanic you trust.

2003 gmc savana rough idle then shuts off

Does it have any power when you start moving? I've seen a lot of plugged catalytic converters. You may want to have an exhaust back-pressure test done.

My truck starts and stalls and will not idle

Try increasing the idle speed. If you don't know, this is how to do it.
Open the bonnet and ask someone to push and release the gas pedal a five second intervals.
Observe which part is moving.
Yo will see a small adjustment screw on that lever. You will understand that by adjusting the screw you can increase the gas supply to the engine.
Slowly rotate the screw while the engine is running. (If the engine doesn't run in idle state as you have explained, ask someone to keep the pedal slightly pressed. After increasing the gas supply, ask the person to release the pedal).
Adjust it further to get a smooth running condition at idling.
Also check whether air cleaner is blocked.

I have a 1994 Honda Accord 4 door v6. I have rough idle when in drive and smooth idle when in neutral. Also rough take offs from a stop or slow speeds. If I pump the gas pedal a few time the rough take...

  • does the engine miss? bumps is a rythmic pattern?
  • an engine miss will appear to diminish at higher rpm due to centrifical force.
  • other possible problem broken or flat motor mount.
  • is the idle rough in reverse?
  • if not
  • open hood
  • start engine
  • Left foot on brake (hard)
  • start engine
  • watch engine as you select drive
  • still holding brake with left foot / throttle gas with right foot
  • does engine dramatically move?
  • if so replace motor mount on offending side
  • if not possible engine miss or transmission problems

Have a 1985 mazda rx7 will not idle .. cold start ok when choke is on once warm stalls and will not idle

There is a throtle adjuster right behind the carb. You can adjust it with a screw driver. If you are not sure where it is, just have someone press to gas pedal and you will see it move. RPM's at idle should be around 1,000 when it is idle once it has warmed up. Once that car warms up the choke moves back in and the car is probably stalling because it is not running enough RPM's.

Engine runs rough after about ten minutes /idles really low

Just trowing some suggestions out there, but, I would check the idle air control valve (solenoid) or the throttle position sensor. If they check out then my last guess would be the map sensor or the vaccuum to the map sensor. Hope I was able to help. Best wishes.

When idling, the engine rattles

I found this solution at:

Don't believe everything you hear! Too many Xperts out there! Ok, here's the deal. I have a Scion 2005 xb and a 2006 xb. To set up the idle, just look near the front of your engine close to the radiator fan. As you are facing the car with the hood up, near the right side of the engine, you should see the thin metal wire that gives your car gas when you depress the gas pedal. Have someone press the gas pedal quickly and you will see it move(even if the engine is off). Don't let them hold it down! Just a quick press/release or two. (You can also do this yourself if necessary, by pushing the small plastic wheel the cable rides on). Ok, after you locate the wire and the round plastic piece, locate the small nut that has a small "allen wrench" type screw in the center of it. You may see a small dot of yellow paint from the factory which shows the original location of the screw. FIRST, with a 5/16 or (equivalent millimeter) wrench, loosen the nut only slightly. SECOND, with a very small #2 size allen wrench, slightly TIGHTEN the screw until the rough idle smooths out(about 10 or 11 rpm's on the gauge inside on your odometer). DONE! Takes about 5 minutes and saves $$$ and time at the dealer!
You should have someone running the car to do this...BUT for safety reasons, be very careful not to get your hands near the fan which WILL PROBABLY COME ON!!!! And don't let someone depress and release the gas pedal while your hands are near the wire! You only need to tighten the allen screw about a half turn. After adjusting, give a quick depress of the gas pedal again to make sure it adjusts properly and seats. Remember, the higher you set the idle, the more gas you use and the quicker you overheat. So, set it at the very minimum that takes out the roughness(between 9 & 10 rpm's is ideal). Good luck, Ricko, New Smyrna Beach, FL
