I have a T reg Peugeot 106, the temperature light keeps coming on even thou I've topped the oil up. Any info plz

Topping up the oil has very little bearing on engines overheating.

You need to remove the radiator cap and top up the cooling system with anti-freeze and water mixed to specifications. Note that I mention RADIATOR CAP and not the expansion reservoir cap. Remove the radiator cap with the engine COLD. Once you have filled the radiator, you need to run the engine until it gets to full operating temperature. Some of the water will overflow out until the thermostat opens, then the water level will rise and fall. When it has settled, bubbles have stopped, turn the engine off, top up one last time. Replace the radiator cap and then top up the reservoir tank.

There are videos online, Google 'burping cooling system', and look at the images tab. Here you go.

After I replace the tensioner elbow and refill coolant, do I need to get air out of the lines?

Yes you do have to burp the system. With radiator cap off (as opposed to the expansion tank reservoir which should also be off) the engine cold and the system almost full, squeeze the top and bottom radiator hoses sharply. Top up fully and replace the two caps. Bring the engine and water coolant to full temperature until the cooling fan kicks in. Wearing gloves, squeeze those hoses again with the engine running. You should feel the water surging. Turn off the engine and leave to cool. Remove the radiator cap and fill the system to the top. Replace the radiator cap. Remove the cap to the reservoir bottle and top that up to the MAX line. Job done and all the air pockets removed.

How do i change the radiator fluid?

Most radiators have a drain plug on the bottom tank the engine block also has a drain plug . Remove the radiator cap ,open both drains ,let all the coolant run out, if there is no radiator plug remove the lower hose , remove the heater demister hoses, with the heater control on hot flush out all the coolant from the heater radiator. with a garden hose, till the water runs clean, tighten the radiator plug or re fit the hose, put a garden hose into the radiator and flush out till the water at the block plug runs clean ,refit the heater hoses, refit the block plug, fill the radiator from the hose leave the cap off , If it has a overflow tank clean and flush it. start and run engine for 5 minutes top up radiator if needed . stop engine and drain out all water. most important that all old coolant is drained out, only buy the best coolant you can . If you make up your own use only distilled water. keep some to top up with never mix with another brand. Fill radiator with coolant top up over flow tank, run engine top up coolant as needed, refit radiator cap run for another 10 minutes check for leaks,

How do you know if the water pump failed?

If the bearing failed, it will howl or be noisy. If the pump seal failed, it will be leaking coolant from behind the pulley- through the "weep" hole at the bottom of the pump. If the impellers on the pump that push water through are worn down, it won't leak or be noisy, but your coolant circulation will be impaired, and maybe critically impaired if worn down severely - some pumps use plastic impellers that wear quicker than metal ones. One way to check is with radiator cap off the warm engine (so the thermostat is open and coolant will flow from engine through the top hose into the radiator) and look inside the radiator to see if coolant is flowing in through the top hose. If unsure, squeeze the top hose as tight as you can to stop flow through hose, then release. You may feel the surge of coolant behind your hand as you release hose and you should see the coolant in the radiator moving. If still unsure, have a tech or mechanic check for coolant circulation.
Be very careful opening radiator cap on a warm engine. Turn engine off first. You may want to use a heavy rag on top of cap. Turn cap to first release and wait until any steam or pressure is gone. If coolant is hot it may scald you, and it may be under enough pressure that turning cap to first release will cause hot coolant to start coming out the radiator filler neck where cap sits. When pressure is gone go ahead and remove cap (turn some more to second release-then remove cap). With cap off, start engine and check circulation.
Good luck.

check for loose hose clamps . expanded top hose ( over clips). faulty radiator cap, signs of corrosion at top or bottom of radiator. overheating engine remove radiator cap wqhen warn and completely fill run engine and watch for air bubbles in radiator Make sure that the radiator is sucking water back from the overflow bottle The little hose is good and the cap is allowing this to happen. check for leaks in the heater hoses anjd taps

My 97 Astro van is overheating after flushing radiator and changing thermostat. What can it Be?

did you burp all the air out of the system.

With the engine cold remove the radiator cap. Top off with coolant. Start the engine and let idle topping off coolant as necessary. When the engine is fully warmed up and you feel heat coming from the radiator fan replace the radiator cap.

Themometer warning light has come on whatshould i do? Just add Water?

that would be the place to start, remove the readiator cap and fill the readiator then the over flow bottle, make sure the engine is cool before removing the cap, then fill the readiator and then start the engine with the cap off and top the radiator off again it would be a good idea to let the engine run untill the thermostat opens to make sure the radiator is full you will know when the thermostat opens when the top radiator hose get hot......good luck

No heat at idle

radiator coolant level and overflow tank low fill overflow tank to max remove radiator cap top off coolant level, start car and let it warm up for 5 or 10 minutes, if fluid level drops top off radiator with coolant again check for heat output if OK replace cap DONE else have someone increase engine RPMs (around 3500rpm) top off coolant level (there was air in system) replace radiator cap

Replaced thermostat, water continues to overheat and is expelled out the cap to the water reservoir. Water heat gauge show low heat then spikes to extreme high intermittently.

You have air pockets in the system. With the engine cold, remove the radiator cap. Then run the engine until the thermostat opens as you top off the radiator and keep an eye on the temperature gauge. If you think the car is going to overheat, replace the radiator cap, shut off the engine and wait 15 to 20 minutes to let the engine cool. Once the thermostat opens, lightly grab the upper radiator hose to feel for air pockets. You will feel the bubbles as they pass through the hose. Then have someone else rev the engine to 1800 - 2000 rpm and hold it there while you top off the radiator completely and then install and tighten the radiator cap. DO NOT DROP THE RPM BEFORE THE CAP IS SECURED OR YOU MAY BE SERIOUSLY BURNED!! Finally, let the engine run and monitor the temperature and road test. You may have to repeat the steps 2 or more times to remove all of the air but usually it will clear the first time.

I have a leak coming from the upper radiator hose (someone else looked at my engine and told me this) the only problem is i have NO idea which the upper radiator hose is...some kind of diagram would be...

you should be able to see the leak being that the radiator hose is right there around the top where you would fill or check your radiator fluid. you can also google it if you absolutely need a picture like engine specs of your year make and model.
