This is a difficult question because there are a few things that can cause the problem if it won't shift into overdrive..?..Marty was correct about the relay if that is all you wanted to know...However most won't shift properly to overdrive if vehicle is not at correct operating temp...meaning faulty coolant temp.sensor or improper opening of the thermostat..some also have an altitude sensor...You have to be on the open highway also ...as in a freeway...I'm sure you know that...Make sure you have correct trans fluid level with no leaks..,let vehicle run for 30 minutes before driving...make sure temp gauge is at operating temp before driving ..Try these simple steps first to eliminate the obvious before buying many parts trying to guess the problem..You also need to know the exact size and type of trans you have..If nothing seems to work ..have it scanned at a dealership for codes and they will tell you the exact problem. Some parts stores have scanners but they are limited..Only a dealer scanner will scan everything.......This will save time and money.....Take this advice because many of these Toyotas have the same problems however all don't have the same faulty component.........Good Luck...

Remove the cover located at windshield base with flatblade screw driver or other prying device. Remove retaining bolt, then while prying under wiper arm where it is attached to wiper motor shaft, wiggle wiper arm side to side and up & down. Don't be scared.

SOURCE: I HAVE A 1988 TOYOTA

The dash lights are controlled by the dimmer switch on the head lamp switch. Check under the dash to ensure nothing got accidentally unplugged. Also the plug in the back os the dash can come loose or a contact can burn up where it plugs in on high mileage cars and trucks. Some times you can clean the plug with a small brass brush and sometimes you have to replace the plug and or cluster depending how bad it is. Also most cars have more than one fuse box make sure to check them all.

I have a 1988 toyota supra with a auto tranmission the problem is that it will not shift into 4 highway the tech is 4 grand at 70 .

These cars have a switch that controls the overdrive, and that is where I would start. Check the fuse panel to ensure that you do not have a bad fuse, then check the OD switch.

Where is the horn relay located on the 1988 Toyota pick-up?

Toyota does not use a relay for horn operation. Power to the horn is provided by the 15 amp Haz-Horn fuse. The horn operation is controlled by ground through the horn switch (button) on the steering wheel.

Does a neutral safety switch have anything to do with the overdrive on a 1988 toyota p.u. neither work, someone told me when the overdrive stopped working it was the neutral safety switch.which i have it...

If both stopped working at the same time, then im sure its in the shifter itself. The cable may need to be adjusted or replaced.
Please rate me.

Bad grounds, corroded sockets or connectors. check that you have 12 volts to the sockets and the ground path is good.
