Sometimes your Auto Parts Store has more answers than you think...Ask to see this unit at your store...compare it to what is under your hood...usually located beside the oil filter...are you having instrument problems?

SOURCE: Pontiac Bonneville(2000) oil pressure sending unit

The oil pressure sending unit is located behind the oil filter, Threaded into an aluminunm housing. It has wiring that plugs into the sending unit. The oil filter has to be removed and you will need a deep well socket and a 6 inch extension. Change the oil and the sending unit together.

SOURCE: oil pressure sending unit

Hi there;

Your looking foer the oil pressure sensor on the 2004 8.1L.
You will find it located directly behind the EGR valve threaded into the block just to the drivers side of the center bolt for the transmission to block connection.

Thanks

SOURCE: diagram for the location of the oil pressure

the oil sending unit is in the rear of the motor center right as you face the motor. You almost have to climb up on the motor to see it because it is down on the block. If you remember where the distributor used to be in the rear. The sending unit is just to the right as you face the motor.Good luck.

I have a 1976 buick regal 350 engine and the oil light comes on when the engine gets hot and it is at an idle. when you give it gas the light goes out. could this be the oil sending unit and if so where is...

it might be the sending unit, is it a buick 350 or a chevy. 350? if a buick engine the sinding unit should be on the side of the timing cover if a chevy 350 next to the dist.

remove the oil sinding unit and install a manuel gauge and see just what the oil pressure is if below 10 psi at hot idle replace the bearings and oil pump in the engine. if this is a chevy 350 make sure you replace the camshaft bearings this is were we use to see the gratest oil pressure loss.

98 chevy 1500 starts and then shuts right off have replaced fuel pump and filter ,crank sensor, cam sensor ,oil sen. coil, ign.mod and PCM

On some chevys the oil pressure sending unit closes the circuit to continue the fuel pump to run after start. In the event of a wreck ,the car stops running thus no oil pressure thus turns off power to the fuel pump .A safety to help prevent fires. When you first start the car, the computer turns on the fuel pump for about 20 seconds just enough time to start and allow the oil pressure sending unit to close the circuit to allow it to continue running. when the car car has NO oil pressure or the sending unit fails ,it will start then shut down..as many times as you try to start. replace the oil pressure sending unit and secure a good conection. Oil light came on and low oil pressure or no oil pressure. But oil level is fine. 2003 Chevy sierra

spend the 12 dollars and get a universal mechanical oil pressure gauge, remove the oil sending unit on truck and screw new gauge into and start truck. Does it read pressure? I know people will say just replace oil sending unit but i like to visually check for a true oil pressure than to trust a light, at least you will know what pressure your motor has. if you have pressure then replace the sending unit. Most of the time when the sending unit goes bad your oil pressure gauge in the truck will run at 80 psi all the time. Since you have a light the sending unit just says it isn't getting pressure which turns a light on. So be safe and do as i suggest, if there is no pressure at the mechanical gauge then i hate to say it but you may have a bad oil pump. I honestly just think you have a bad sending unit,if you want just replace it and if lights go off thats good, but you still don't know what the pressure is and if you feel comfortable with this then do so.

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with the ''Low Oil'' light on.

may be the oil sending unit is bad
may be the oil pump
is there any noise in the engine?
have the oil pressure check at a repair shop to make sure you have enough oil pressure
if it's ok then have the shop replace the switch while they have the old one out to check the pressure

My 2005 Chevy 1500HD when cold there is no oil pressure accoring to the gauge. But after a few minutes of running and then a restart of the engine the oil pressure is bake to normal.

most likely the problem is the oil pressure sending unit or the oil passage to the sending unit is partially plugged, that is unlikely, I would replace the sending unit 1st.

Low oil pressure

I believe your sending unit is located on the top of the block, towards the fire wall. You can get an inexpensive pressure test gauge and put in place of your sending unit. It should be a 1/4" NPT fitting. Does the pressure gauge fluctuate between low and high RPM? If so, chances are that your oil pump may need to be replaced.
