Question about 2004 Jeep Liberty

1 Answer

Hi. I own a 04 Jeep liberty with 102,000 miles on it. I've owned the Jeep since October 11th. I finally used my 4h today going through snow and put it in 2h when the roads got bare. After putting it back in 2h, my Jeep started shaking, vibrating, making a very loud howling noise, and started smoking under the Hood. I have No idea why it's doing this. Can someone help me out?

Sounds as if your 4x4 actuator failed to get all the way out of 4 wheel drive. Try shifting in and out of 4WD, backing up some, etc. You may have to replace the actuator, or some part of that system. Could be time for dealer diagnosis.

I have a Jeep Liberty 2005, 60,000 miles on it.. Had to use part time 4 wheel drive to get out of sand last week.. went back into 2 wheel so I thought. Did the frontward/ backwards thing you need to

4L or 4H??????
is this Selectrac???? has 5 mode do say going from which mode to mode you did. and did so before or after leaving the sand.

drive it on sand, dirt gravel, ice, or grass
in 2wd and it will un wind
my guess is you wound it up. the drive line in PT 4wd.
did you read the operators guide carefully ?
this year is last year for free opr, guide. 2005
10 year range it is.

page 239?
tow 244
the Selectrac has FT 4wD. do you have that?
if not , you must get it to unwind.
do tell what drive line you have
what mode uses.
and when
and if the lamps changed correct before leaving sand.
or for sure, not in AWD

No if the head gasket went it takes time to wear a spot out in it to make it finally go.How many miles on it?Rust in coolant mean you had a dirty radiator that needed flushed out for a long time, and the rad changes just helped cleaning it.

My gascap light on my 2008 jeep liberty came on today and i took off the gas cap and put it on again but the light remains on. how can i turn it off?

If the cap is good and the venting system is working properly the code should re-set itself in about twenty miles of driving.

What should be done for the regular maintenance/service of my jeep liberty 2006 @ 5,000 and/or is it 6,000 miles.thanks!

With the quality of oils available today I would think that 6,000 Miles is an appropriate interval for normal use. If you are doing towing etc a shorter interval would not hurt it. There is nothing like good clean oil and filter change to prolong the life of an engine.

2006 jeep liberty, brakes jam when in part time and 4x4 and today it was worse because of the this part of power train, covered under warranty?

Brakes are not part of the power train, but may have their own warranty?
It is ABS?
If so, it probably has a 5 year warranty.
Most common cause of brake drag is not enough brake petal freeplay, so fluid can not return to the reservoir.

I will assume you have the same thing as in a Suzuki Grand Vitara :
N : Neutral : use this when you tow your vehicle.
4H : Use it in normal road conditions, highway, etc.
4H Lock : Use it on offroad, snow, sand, ... etc
4L Lock : Use when you are stuck on snow or sand, BE CAREFUL, this mode is only for difficult situations, do not exceed 25 MPH, and do not use it in normal conditions.
Hope this help.
