Possible a bad regulator. Some alternators have the regulator as part of the alternator and others have it separate. If you did not have the alternator bench tested but simply used a multimeter to check voltage then it is possible that the alternator is not good as you can have 14.5 volts out put but it could be ac current as a rectifier is bad.

SOURCE: I have a 99 windstar. I replaced battery and

With the battery light on and at 14 volts I would suspect that the diode trio is going out and over charging the battery, first check that the battery has fluid in it all the way if it does then have it load tested at a battery shop like all state or sears or any parts store can do a load test for you. Just because it's putting out 14 volts does not mean it's putting out enough amperage, the light is giving you fair warning of an impending problem, have it checked at AutoZone or shucks it does not cost nothing and they can test the alternator output as well.

SOURCE: replaced alternator and battery is good but not charging

I found the problem YEAH. It was the fuse that is in the side of the fuse box under the hood, Its where the battery wire from the alternator connects thru a fuse to go to the battery, Its one hundred and something volt fuse. It took care of the problem instantly.... Thank you all for your replies...

SOURCE: Will not charge battery.

Will the battery take a charge, charging it with a battery charger ? Might want to have alternator checked to see if its any good, make sure battery cable connectors are tight, if they arent the battery more than likely wont take a charge.

What does the check battery charging system light mean you have just changed the alternator, starter and had the battery checked. The car will stay on battery and the alternator will not pick up the t

The warning light means the alternator is not charging the battery.
Since you have replaced the alternator it could be defective or the problem could be in the wiring harness. There is a fuse or a fuse wire between the alternator and battery which could have blown.
You may need a shop manual to have the test procedures and wiring diagrams.

My dash board lights come on but car will not start

is your battery fully charged,do you have spark from plug wires, does it turn over, you chek distributor and coil, chek fuses, chek the starter you have power to starter, you mentioned nothing about it turning over or cranks??? chek these first,, check for gas , can you see or smell gas when you try to start, chek ground wire from battery, check for corrostion on starter wires and any broken wires or frayed wires. start with the battery and then chek evrything else process of elimation ,do one by one.

sounds like your alternator could be going bad, most major autoparts stores will do a free battery, starter and alternator test, and tell you what your problem is. just make sure you ask for a full charging system test otherwise they will probably just check the battery (if the battery tests bad you wont get an accurate test on your alternator, so replace the battery then have them run the test again right away) If it is the alternator, dont let it go too long, a bad alternator can kill your battery, a bad battery can kill your alternator and starter, and a bad starter can kill a battery.

no promises that this is your problem but it is where I would start, there are other possibilites as well, such as a weak feul pump or clogged fuel filter, if your engine isn't getting enough gas it will dog down and stall. But like I said above I would start with the battery/alternator/starter test.

Battery charge light comes on and doesn't go out. After about 15-20 min, the ABS light comes on and AWD light too. After 10 more min, car completely shuts down as battery is drained. Took it to mechanic...

You are describing a situation that would be solved by a replacement alternator. You say yours is fine ... I think I'd be inclined to have it checked by another mechanic.

The battery light comes on when you are using more power than you are making. Your car died because it had no electricity to run the spark plugs, the electric fuel pump, the computer, the lights, the instruments, the cooling fans, the security system, the automatic locks, the heater/AC - ventilation system, and other electrical powered devices required to make a modern car run.

In the good old days, a battery would run a car for weeks, in the day time (no lights) - with the only power requirement was the starter and the ignition. Today - cars are power hungry.

Yes, your car ran out of power last night and this morning it strarted fine and ran for a while. That was because your battery has SOME capability to recover overnight. Don't push your luck. Have an evaluation done by a professional mechanic.

Car wont run.

Does it crank well and all that but with no spark or is the battery just dead? If the battery is dead, it either won't charge while alternator is spinning or the alternator doesn't charge well enough to keep the battery charged well. If it jumps and runs indefinitely, battery is done. If it jumps and dies, alternator is done. If battery and alternator are fine, and you have no spark, you may need a new coil, new spark plug wires if they are worn out and too resistant, pick up coil inside of distributor, or you may have some other ignition system issue.

Most times when an alternator fails, it starts charging less and less till the car won't keep running or it won't start the next time. If the alternator hasn't failed, the battery needs replacing. If your battery is 5 or more years old this is a very good possibility. If your alternator failed and you have killed your battery many times before replace them both. Each time you drain a battery to dead you lose about 10% of its current capacity.

If the battery is fine and engine will not turn, starter may need replacing. Hope I helped.

there's a possibility that the battery is run down. If it's the original battery, chances are you need to replace it. I'd have the alternator checked as well, however the most likely problem is a worn out battery. It's not uncommon for batteries that have been maintaining their charge through the warmer months to go bad once a cold weather comes through. As for the stinky exhaust, in your attempts to start the engine with a run down battery, the engine probably loaded up with fuel, thereby causing it to run rough and stink till excess fuel was expelled from the cylinders. Hope this helps.
