Question about 2004 Nissan Maxima
Tried adding fluid to PS pump, and turned PS left and right with engine running. No change to noise level.
Check the transmission oil level. That sometimes causes a whining sound.
Hope this helps.

Could be one of the belts slipping or worn out. Might even be the water pump bearing. Does the whine increase/decrease as you rev? Whine louder if you suddenly accelerate?
