Depends on the version. Turbohydromatic transmissions vary even with the same model. It depends on what type of vehicle it is going into. Most Tubomatics are now electronically controlled with reluctor rings and magnetic pickups that replace vacumn modulators

700r4 in a 84 K10 blazer wont shift until you let off gas

Most of the older trannys had a vacuum modulator that told the transmission when to shift. If there is a vacuum leak, or that hose is disconnected, they won't shift correctly. I hope this helps.

My 1988 chevy k1500 700r4 will not shift out of first

check to see if the vacuum line is hooked up to the modulator,(on the trans. next to the pan u will see a steel line with a vacuum hose on the end.
Make sure it has vacuum when running also ,if everything is ok,pull the hose off the modulator ,if any fluid comes out ,it's bad
Also if the governer gear stripps out ,same problem, under the round cover on the tailshaft, with a wire bail safty clip usually, just pop the wire clip pull the assembly out and look at the PLASTIC gear on the end ,if it is "applecored " it's the culprit.

I am looking for a thm400 ****** for 70 pontiac would a 1985 gmc sierra ****** work? i have a gm adapter plate , also underneath on right side of trannyon gmc there is no vacuum line does it build up...

The 1985 GMC Sierra transmission is a th700R4 overdrive transmission. The 700R4 does not utilize a vacuum modulator. Shift points are controlled by the T.P. or kickdown cabe. Proper adjustment of this cable is critical to transmission longevity. Your Pontiac, if originally equipped with a th400 transmission, has no means to connect this cable to the carburetor. I would not recommend this transmission swap. Also the th400 and the 700R4 use different sized drive shaft yokes, so your drive shaft cannot be used.

Need vacccuumdiagram for 77chev 350 engine loosing transmission fluid to i dont know where not leaking on ground

Hello shanebuerman: My name is Roger and I will help you. If you are using transmission oil and see no leaks on the ground I would look at the transmission as the source of the problem. If you have a turbo-hydromatic 400 transmission look at the modulator valve. It will be on the passenger side of the transmission and have a vacuum line attached to it. This will be a metal line that runs over the top of the bell housing. The other end will be connected to the intake manifold at the rear of the carburator. When the diaphram ruptures the fluid is sucked out of the transmission and burnt in the engine. Pull the vacuum line from the valve and if there is any oil at the vacuum port you will have found the source of fluid loss. If you have a 700R4 overdrive transmission? and no external leaks.Look at the radiator as the source of the problem. The transmission coolers were known to leak in the radiators. This model transmission does not have a modulator valve. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. THank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

I need a diagram of the transmission vacuum modulator on a 1988 chevy scotsdale 1500 1/2ton

There is no vacuum going to the trans on an 88 half ton unless it was ordered with a 400 trans. the 700R4 did not use vacuum.

If by some rare chance you have a 400 all you have to do is run a vacuum line from the manifold. Use a vacuum tester. You want to tie into a line that go to 0 vacuum when you rev the engine up.

hope this helps

91 chevy k 1500 won't shift into reverse. i think its a 700r4 transmission but im not sure. it also takes a high rpm to shift out of 1st. Thanks

check the throttle valve cable adjustment. maybe set too tight if shift out of 1st is delayed. best is to have it diagnosed and adjusted by an automatic transmission shop specialist.

A buddy brought me his headache. Its a 1994 GMC jimmy with the 4.3 vortec 4X4 that had a 4L60E he swapped out the 4L60E for a 700R4 from an earlier chevy.the tranny modual plugs are totally different. How do...

The 700R4 is controlled by vacuum lines and throttle cable kick down linkage (TV) and need to be re calibrated to the engine as to being 4.3 or 5.0 to 5.7. Best thing to do is to get a transmission shop that knows how to custom install transmission like a speed shop. The TV cable adjustment on the 700R4 needs to be perfect. TV cable is used to set part throttle shift points, line pressure and if not set right will burn up the clutch plates due to low line pressure. Good luck and hope this helps. you going to need tools that most of us don't have, like to be able to measure and adjust the line pressure at different RPM. If you need more information, keep me posted and be glad to help.
