Take it to an accredited radiator shop and have it properly checked out. Plastic under the radiator cap is odd as it would restrict the excess water flowing to the coolant reservoir.

My coolant level light comes on and stays on but my car is not running hot what does that mean I filled it with antifreeze already

Try the coolant Temperture Sensor,or engine temp Sensor. Could be out,so its giving the computer a false reading.

One hose being cold means the water/coolant is not flowing through the heater core. Flushing it may help.

Where do you hear a valve or flapper moving??? Behind the dash ( instrument panel ) It sounds to like you have a electrical problem , not overheating problem . You need to test to see what the real engine temp. is . Also have vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ,Sounds like A/C is kicking on , the flaper noise you hear is probably the temp actuator inside the dash . You can buy the tool in the video at harbor freight cheap. Point it at upper radiator hose ,near the engine . The IPC illuminates the hot coolant temperature indicator in the message center when the IPC determines that the coolant temperature is greater than 128°C (262°F). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the coolant temperature. Are you getting any such message ?

I get NO Heat from the heater on my 1992 mercury sable, the blower works fine But No Heat ! Can you help

you may have a bad thermostat in the engine. if you have a temp guage, does it read hot? check the coolant level in the radiator 1st it may only need coolant added to it.if all this is good you may have a bad heater control valve on the dash panel.that means the old one will have to come out of the dash and a new one reinstalled.most of the time i've found that it's only low coolant though so don't panic.if you need instructions on thermostat removal post the question and we'll be happy to help!! hope i helped and thank you for choosing fixya.com

I have a red warning light that is activating on my 1999 Malibu Dash. It is on the lower right hand side & looks like a low water indicator. My fluid levels all seem fine.

If your collant level is ok, check your coolant level sensor. Its located on the coolant reservoir, usually at the bottom!! If faulty it will illuminate the low coolant indicator.

Heater doesn't blow hot air but the engine temperature warms up like it should

Check that the water level is correct in the radiator and make sure the water system is properly bled as if there is an air lock then this can cause the prob you describe and check the thermastat is working correctly by dropping it in boiling water and see if it opens fully.

Check Coolant / STOP lights

It depends on the level of the coolant...
There is likely a float switch if it is checking for the amount of coolant. This would probably be in the overflow container off to the side. If the level is fine but the lights still come on, follow the wires from the coolant sensor back a little bit to see if they have come unplugged from the harness.

Low Coolant light

Sounds like your sensor unit in your coolant overflow tank. Like nearly everything man made that floats, they will eventually leak (become water logged). This is a relatively cheap fix, as long as the light is coming on and the coolant level in the overflow tank is between the MIN and MAX lines in the overflow tank. This means that the float in there is dropping below the actual fluid level (watter logged) and you need to get a replacement sensor unit (aka sending unit) for the overflow tank.

Otherwise, if the coolant level in the overflow tank IS BELOW the MIN level line on the tank, then you are losing coolant somewhere and that is when things start to get expensive (might be a radiator problem, head gasket, cylinder head, heater core, etc).

1992 chev chavaler z24 3.1L FI... coolant light on dash is on, levels are fine. hose on drivers side of engine feels empty when car running... is it the water pump, or could something else be wrong?

air lock ,or a thermostat, but saying that have had pulleys on water pumps come adrift where they are plastic.call a mobile mechanic to have a look as cant advise more as never seen one of these cars.but if its a 92 then i doubt if it has a plastic impeller on water pump but its a possibility.Other possibility is no antifreeze or not enough and you have the classic sypmtoms of a frozen engine.
